<p>Jasson Melo is pictured in Manhattan Criminal Court on Dec. 11 2017, in New York, who forced his girlfriend to walk in the street naked after beating her in front of their child, in an apparent jealous rage.<br />
Now being tried on felony assault charges the Harlem man who forced his 24-year-old girlfriend to march naked on a Harlem street tried to convince a jury Tuesday that she offered to shame herself to fix their relationship.<br />
Melo, 26, testified that the mother of his then 2-month-old child begged for another chance after he came home from a night out at 5 a.m. on Jan. 17, 2016, and discovered explicit and flirty texts with other men. A direct contradiction of earlier testimony by the victim that around 5 a.m. on Jan. 17, 2016, Jasson Melo grew enraged that she’d gotten a text message from another man, even though they were splitting and she had plans to move.</p>

<p>Melo allegedly, then proceeded to &#8216;berate her, choke and beat her for hours before threatening her with a heavy Buddha statue if she did not strut around outdoors in the nude with their 2-month-old baby inside,&#8217; the victim testified.<br />
The mew mom can be seen on the footage scrambling for cover after he took away the towel she’d used to cover herself. She testified that she begged him not to force her to go outside and that he threatened to beat her with a hard metal Buddha statue if she didn&#8217;t comply with his sick demands.<br />
Tuesday Melo claimed he was innocently playing a video game on his phone when he heard her remark &#8220;Oh, how big,&#8221; after getting a graphic photo from a male sexting pal in his W. 142nd St. apartment.<br />
Melo who was testifying in his own defense at his trial in Manhattan Supreme Court for coercion, assault and related counts, claimed the message and her reaction set him off. But he claimed he did not get physical with the victim, whose name the Daily News is withholding, in spite of photos the prosecution has introduced of her bruised face and body.<br />
He insisted that the victim said she wanted to know what she could &#8220;do for you to forgive me.&#8221;</p>

<p>He said he got the nude shaming idea from what he claimed was an African ritual &#8220;when somebody gets cheat on.&#8221;<br />
&#8220;You can do this. I&#8217;ll send this video to this guy so they can see you&#8217;re not single,&#8221; Melo testified in broken English.<br />
&#8220;She was saying she was single, that she wasn&#8217;t with me, that she didn&#8217;t have nobody,&#8221; he continued.</p>

<p>He said his plan was to send the video to the seven male contacts he said he found in her phone to prove she was spoken for.</p>

<p>Melo, 22, now faces up to seven years in prison for the cruel and demeaning stunt, Prosecutors say the defendant incriminated himself by leaving a voicemail in which he admitted what he did &#8211; Melo who has pled not guilty to the indictment sent around the degrading footage &#8220;to multiple individuals&#8221; before it went viral on the internet.</p>

<p>&#8220;It was such an immature relationship that I needed to relax,&#8221; he told the court.<br />
The silly stunt has cost him plenty, previously employed as a cook at the United Nations, he was fired as a result of his arrest.<br />
He&#8217;s charged with punching and beating his girlfriend for hours before forcing her outside and berating her in Spanish, calling her a &#8220;whore&#8221; and other ugly insults, Melo, is on trial in Manhattan Supreme Court on charges of coercion, assault, aggravated harassment, menacing, criminal obstruction of breathing and endangering the welfare of a child.</p>
