<p class="mol-para-with-font">The suspects in the murder of a North Shore woman appeared in court Monday.<br />
Stephen Brown and Hailey Dandurand, were charged with several counts in connection with the murder of Telma Boinville.<br />
Brown, 23, and Hailey Kai Dandurand, 20, were silent during their court appearance Monday on charges of second-degree murder, burglary and kidnapping from the Honolulu holiday home homicide of Telma Boinville last Thursday.<br />
The victim&#8217;s eight-year-old daughter, Makana, was found uninjured but tied up in a separate room with a bag placed over her head.<br />
After being taken into custody, Brown told an officer: &#8216;Just shoot me, I deserve this,&#8217; court documents revealed.<br />
Dandurand added: &#8216;Can you just pull your gun out and shoot me in the head? My life is over after today.&#8217;</p>

<p class="mol-para-with-font">The suspects&#8217; statements could lead &#8216;any defence counsel to file a motion arguing that the client was insane at the time and a motion arguing whether or not the client was competent,&#8217; law professor at the University of Hawaii William S. Richardson School of Law, Ken Lawson, told <a class="" href="http://khon2.com/2017/12/11/north-shore-murder-suspects-appear-in-court/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">KHON2</a>.<br />
Honolulu Police Deputy Chief John McCarthy said Boinville&#8217;s body was discovered by renters that night when they returned to the holiday home.<br />
Makana identified Brown and Dandurand in social media photos after describing the pictured green-haired male and female suspect who she said were &#8216;covered in blood and took her into the house, and tied her up&#8217; during the incident.</p>

<p class="mol-para-with-font">The couple were tracked down by police in Mililani late Thursday after they sped off in their victim&#8217;s truck. A crowd of locals gathered as the killer pair were being hauled into police cruisers and driven away. The onlookers shouted angrily at the suspects.<br />
Authorities said Hailey Dandurand, a college student was arrested for car theft, while the unemployed Brown was taken into custody for a warrant and criminal property damage, after he kicked out the window of a police vehicle at the time.<br />
Kevin Emery, the victim&#8217;s husband, confirmed to the <a class="" href="http://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/story/37021422/homicide-investigators-responding-to-fatality-at-north-shore-home" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Hawaii News Now</a> he was banned from entering the home because the bloody scene was so horrific.</p>

<p class="mol-para-with-font">&#8216;They tied up my daughter and they beat my wife to death with a baseball bat,&#8217; he said at the time. &#8216;They won&#8217;t even let me in the house because it&#8217;s so bad.&#8217;<br />
A potential motive for the bloody murder remains unclear.<br />
Court documents obtained by <a class="" href="http://www.kitv.com/story/37029089/man-accused-of-north-shore-murder-shows-abusive-behavior-in-the-past" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">KITV</a> show Brown was also arrested in June after his ex-girlfriend alleged he was abusive. The unnamed woman claimed he repeatedly punched her in the face and tried to choke her.<br />
The Department of Public Safety told the network that Brown posted bail in July while awaiting trial.<br />
&#8216;The last time I talk to him, he told me that he didn&#8217;t have a job and he was very suicidal and that he was planning to do death by cop,&#8217; the woman told the news station.<br />
&#8216;Something stupid like pretending you have a gun so the cop will shoot you, so I think this is his plan so he gets beaten to death in prison.&#8217;</p>

<p class="mol-para-with-font">Heartbroken family members to the late Boinville called on the public for help on social media after learning of the horrifying news.<br />
&#8216;Pray for my family. Pray for my twin brother Kevin Emery, and his little Keiki,&#8217; said the victim&#8217;s brother-in-law, Brian Emery.<br />
Boinville moved from Brazil to Hawaii in the 1990s and had been employed as a substitute teacher at Sunset Beach Elementary School in Pupukea before her tragic passing.</p>

<p>Earlier Friday, Boinville&#8217;s family and friends gathered at Ke Iki Beach for a celebration of life, laying flowers to honor a woman who had an impact on so many. Those who knew her say Boinville, who was a substitute teacher at Sunset Beach Elementary School, was a loving and caring person.<br />
&#8220;She did everything she could to be with people and she would &#8230; celebrate life,&#8221; said friend Virginia Hebert. &#8220;Telma, we love you.&#8221;<br />
