Authorities have launched a hunt for a person of interest which now spans two countries after a 22-year-old female student at Binghamton University in New York was found dead on Friday
Haley Anderson, a senior nursing student, was found dead at an off-campus residence near the State University of New York at Binghamton. Police made the disturbing discovery while responding to a request for a welfare check just before 1 p.m. Friday.
Anderson a registered nursing student, was a senior on track to graduate in May.

Graduating nursing student, Haley Anderson’s body was found inside an off-campus residence Friday afternoon, police said.
However while a person of interest, has been identified, he is yet to be taken into custody as he allegedly fled the country before police found the 22-year-old’s body.
“This incident and the circumstances of the death was not a random act or involving the conduct of a stranger,” Binghamton police said in a news release.
“The victim and male student had a previous domestic and romantic relationship. The Investigation determined that the person of interest has left the United States by international air travel flight, prior to the discovery of Haley Anderson’s deceased body,” according to the police statement.
Authorities said the victim’s former boyfriend, Orlando Tercero, a suspect in the death – used a four-hour head start on detectives Friday in order to flee to Nicaragua, ABC News reports.
Cops believe Tercero, 22, boarded an 8:40 a.m Friday morning flight out of New York to Nicaragua.
Anderson’s cause of death was not revealed, but following an autopsy on Saturday, her death was ruled a homicide.
Authorities said Tercero chose to take a flight to Nicaragua, because he “has family over there.”
Orlando Tercero, allegedly, fled to Nicaragua Friday morning ,four hours after killing his ex-girlfriend, Haley Anderson
Addressing the delicate situation, Binghamton Police Chief Joseph Zikuski emphasized that even though Tercero was born in Miami, Florida, it’s unclear if he acquired additional citizenship from Nicaragua.
“We’re currently determining with the State Department if he’s a U.S. citizen,” said Zikuski.
The issue is critical if Tercero has dual citizenship, because while the U.S. has an extradition treaty with the Republic of Nicaragua, Zikuski said he was informed that if Tercero is also a Nicaraguan citizen “it will be harder.
“There’s a chance they may not extradite him,”Chief Zikuski said.
Anderson a registered nursing student was expected to graduate from the college in May. Athena Anadnostakos, who was Anderson’s co-worker at Jazzman’s Cafe on campus, described the deceased 22-year-old student sa a “very good girl.”
