<p>A teenage girl and a teacher were critically injured in the latest incident of mass shooting at an American school. The incident unfolded around 9 am on Friday morning at Noblesville West Middle School in Indiana.</p>

Seaman was also shot as he tackled the gunman. His condition is not known.<br />
The shooter was arrested shortly afterwards and remains in police custody.<br />
30-year-old science teacher Jason Seaman who is also a football coach at the school, clearly averted possible carnage after he brought the student to the ground and &#8216;swatted&#8217; the gun out of his hand, students said.<br />
The teenage girl is believed to be in a critical condition. Once the suspect was in custody, other students were taken on buses to a nearby high school to be reunited with their parents.<br />
The bloody attack marks the 23rd school shooting in 2018 during which someone was hurt or killed.<br />
Authorities do not believe there are any more suspects, but confirmed there have been additional threats made at other area schools, including one at Noblesville High School.<br />
Police were continuing to monitor the high school Friday afternoon, but Noblesville Police Chief Kevin Jowitt noted there is no evidence to suggest the threat is credible.<br />
The student victim was taken to Riley Hospital for Children in the wake of the shooting and the teacher was being treated at Indiana University Medical Center. A second student was also being treated for a fractured ankle at Riverview Hospital.</p>

<div data-type="text">The quick reaction of the teacher meant that only two were injured by actual gunshots following a shooting at a middle school in Indiana, before the suspect was taken into custody. One other student suffered a leg fracture in the melee.</div>

<p>One Seventh-grader confirmed that the science teacher likely prevented even more injuries by confronting the shooter, who he said pulled out a gun and opened fire after walking in late while the class was taking a test.<br />
&#8220;Our science teacher immediately ran at him, swatted a gun out of his hand and tackled him to the ground,&#8221; Ethan Stonebraker said.<br />
&#8220;If it weren&#8217;t for him, more of us would have been injured for sure.&#8221;</p>

<p>Indiana University Health spokeswoman Danielle Sirilla said the teacher was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital and the wounded student was taken to Riley Hospital for Children. She didn&#8217;t know the seriousness of their injuries.<br />
The attack comes a week after an attack at a high school in Santa Fe, Texas, that killed eight students and two teachers, and months after the school attack that killed 17 people in Parkland, Florida. The Florida attack inspired students from that school and others throughout the country to call for more restrictions on access to guns.</p>

<p>After the shooting, students were bused to the Noblesville High School gym, where hundreds of anxious parents and other family members arrived to retrieve them.<br />
Eighth-grader Chris Navarro said he was inside an auditorium when he counted hearing 16 gunshots about a minute before the bell rang for the change in classes.<br />
&#8220;The speaker came on and said we were on lockdown and people rushed in and we went to the back of the room. I went into this little room in the back with three other people,&#8221; he said.<br />
Another student shaken up by the experience recounted watching the teacher intervene to save the children&#8217;s lives after the student pulled out his gun and started firing.<br />
&#8216;She kept saying, &#8220;I saw my teacher get shot,&#8221; her dad Jeremy Lovall, told <a class="class" href="https://twitter.com/indystar/status/1000047370451800064" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">The Indy Star</a>.</p>

<p>Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb, who was returning from a trip to Europe on Friday, issued a statement saying he and other state leaders were getting updates about the situation and that 100 state police officers had been made available to work with local law enforcement.<br />
&#8220;Our thoughts are with all those affected by this horrible situation,&#8221; Holcomb said.<br />
Noblesville, which is about 20 miles northeast of Indianapolis, is home to about 50,000 people. The middle school has about 1,300 students from grades 6-8. The school&#8217;s academic year was scheduled to end next Friday.<br />
Indiana&#8217;s Senate Democrats issued a statement in response to Friday&#8217;s school shooting expressing their condolences to the victims and calling for steps to prevent such shootings, including restrictions on guns.</p>
