Former West Virginia State University football player held without bail in classmate’s death

Twenty-one-year-old Jalique Keene appeared in court Wednesday. He wasn’t required to enter a plea. His attorney didn’t immediately return a call seeking comment.
Keene’s charged with murder in the death of Mikaela Conley, of Bar Harbor.
She was reported missing on Friday. The next day, a police K-9 unit found the 19-year-old’s body in a wooded area near an elementary school, just outside the downtown of Bar Harbor, Maine.
The two attended Mount Desert High School together. Keene was a football player who went on to play for West Virginia State University.
Residents assumed Conley, whose mother said she had been missing since Thursday, was the subject of the police investigation, though McCausland’s statement Monday was the first state indication of foul play.
Family members left court without commenting.
The judge sealed a state police affidavit with details of the alleged killing.
