<div> A Georgia couple have been arrested for allegedly locking up the woman&#8217;s two sons in the basement, feeding them only once a day for nearly a year and subjecting them to both physical and sexual abuse.<br />
Tamara McGowan, 38, and her boyfriend, 42-year-old Thomas Young, of Stone Mountain, were taken into custody on Wednesday after DeKalb County Sheriff&#8217;s deputies found them sleeping in a car at a Walmart parking lot.<br />
Both were booked into the county jail on charges of first-degree child cruelty for depriving necessary sustenance, first-degree child cruelty for excessive physical or mental pain and second-degree child cruelty for excessive physical or mental pain.</div>

<p class="mol-para-with-font">Young also faces an additional charge of criminal attempted sodomy, and McGowan faces counts of simple assault. They are being held without bond.<br />
According to court documents cited by <a class="class" href="https://www.wsbtv.com/news/local/dekalb-county/cops-dekalb-couple-locked-kids-in-basement-fed-them-once-a-day-for-almost-a-year/798384488" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">WSB-TV</a>, between June 2017 and April 2018, McGowan and Young allegedly kept the woman&#8217;s teenage sons confined to the cellar of a relative’s home on North Hairston Road for hours at a time.<br />
During that period, the children were only given noodles to eat once a day.<br />
Arrest warrants allege that McGowan and Young also exposed her sons to drug use and performed sexual acts in front of them.<br />
Investigators also alleged that the duo exposed the kids to drug use and sexual activity, and attempted to have the children participate.<br />
Young also allegedly tried to force the boys to perform sex acts on him, leading to the attempted sodomy charge, reported <a class="class" href="http://www.fox5atlanta.com/news/deputies-dekalb-county-couple-held-children-captive-in-basement" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Fox 5 Atlanta.</a><br />
They’re both charged with first-degree child cruelty for depriving necessary sustenance, first-degree child cruelty for excessive physical or mental pain and second-degree child cruelty for excessive physical or mental pain, according to DeKalb County Jail records.<br />
Young faces an addition.<br />
They pair were both denied bond.</p>

<div>Arthur Dyer, Young&#8217;s uncle and the owner of the property where the suspected abuse had allegedly taken place, defended his nephew and vehemently denied that the children had ever been in his basement.</div>

Records indicate that McGowan has a past criminal record in Georgia, which includes charges of fraud, forgery and obstruction of officers.</p>
