A 3-year-old North Dakota man, on trial for murder and child kidnap, tightened the rope around a pregnant woman’s neck as his girlfriend sliced her stomach open and then tore the baby from her womb, a court heard, Wednesday.
William Hoehn is charged with conspiracy to commit murder in the death of 22-year-old Savanna LaFontaine-Greywind, who was eight months pregnant when she was brutally murdered on August 19, 2017.
Hoehn’s live-in girlfriend at the time, 39-year-old Brooke Lynn Crews, both were charged with conspiracy to commit murder, kidnapping and giving false information to police, were being tried separately.  Crews ultimately pled guilty to all counts in December 2017. The pair, and was sentenced to life in prison without parole in February.
During Hoehn’s trial, prosecutors said Wednesday that he tightened a rope around Greywind’s neck after Crews sliced the baby from the Greywind’s womb. The prosecutor also suggested that the girlfriend couldn’t have restrained the mom-to-be alone.
As the search for Savanna Greywind proceeded, Hoehn was caught with the missing pregnant woman’s baby.
Initially he told police he arrived home August 19 to find Crews cleaning up blood in their bathroom. According to Hoehn, Crews presented him with an infant girl and said: ‘This is our baby. This is our family.’

Hoehn, meanwhile, pleaded not guilty and said that he didn’t know Crews had planned to kill Greywind.
Savanna Greywind reportedly was killed after having her baby cut out of her womb in August 2017 by the ‘womb raider’ couple who lived upstairs in the same apt building. William Hoehn, the male partner to Brooke Lynn Crews, claims the deed was solely executed by Crews. His part in the womb raid he said, was that he took garbage bags containing bloody shoes and his bloody towels and disposed of them away from the apartment complex.

Defense attorney Daniel Borgen said in his 10-minute opening statement Wednesday that Greywind was already dead when Hoehn entered the bathroom. Hoehn then helped cover up the crime, Borgen said, noting that his client has confessed to that.
‘He helped her. He shouldn’t have,’ Borgen said. ‘He should have immediately called police.’

‘He goes and gets a rope, puts it around her neck, pulls it tight and says, ‘If she’s not dead, she is now,’ Younggren said in a 50-minute presentation Wednesday.
Kayakers found Greywind’s body in late August, wrapped in plastic and dumped in a river. It is still unclear how she ended up there.

Savanna Greywind, 22, was last seen leaving her apartment in Fargo on Aug. 19 and vanished after helping an upstairs neighbor who needed a model for a dress she was sewing, the Duluth News Tribune reported.
Norberta LaFontaine-Greywind, Savanna’s mother, told the paper that her daughter bought pizza, went to her neighbor’s home and never came back.
“I immediately knew something was wrong because her car is here,” the mother said. “She’s eight months pregnant. Her feet were swollen, so she wouldn’t have taken up walking like that. There was pizza here that she hadn’t eaten. She would not just leave that lady’s apartment and go somewhere.”

Hoehn’s live-in girlfriend, Brooke Crews, already pled guilty to conspiracy to commit kidnapping and murder and lying to law officers in December 2017. Her co-conspirator William Hoehn however, has pled not guilty to his charges.
That neighbour, Brooke Crews admitted she and Greywind argued and that she pushed Greywind down, knocked her out and cut her open.
Kayakers found Greywind’s body, wrapped in plastic and in a river.

Crews and Greywind had been friends, and Greywind had texted her mother shortly before she disappeared to say she was going to Crews’ apartment.
After Greywind was reported missing, police searched Hoehn and Crews’ apartment three times in six days but found no trace of blood.
Crews originally told police that Greywind had given her the child.
