<p>An expatriate British woman who is facing the death penalty in Malaysia after allegedly stabbing her husband to death following a row will be charged with murder, officials said.<br />
Samantha Jones, 62, arrived at Langkawi magistrates&#8217; court on Tuesday morning after nearly two weeks spent in custody.<br />
Her husband, John William Jones, 62, was found by a neighbor, sprawled on the floor of their home on the island.<br />
He had suffered a stab wound to his chest at about 2.30am on October 18, police said</p>

She reportedly told police she stabbed her husband in self-defence after suffering years of domestic abuse and violence at his hands.<br />
Her attorney Sangeet Kaur Deo told reporters Jones was asked by a court official if she understood the charge, which carries the mandatory death sentence by hanging.<br />
She said her client said yes.</span></p>

<p>Jones did not enter a plea as the magistrate court has no jurisdiction to hear a murder case, Kaur said.<br />
The case is expected to be transferred to the high court.<br />
The lawyer added that Jones was “very, very overwhelmed” and grieved for her husband.<br />

<p>The couple who had been living on the island for 11 years, are believed to have had a row in their bungalow in Kampung Gelam, Langkawi, reports claim.<br />
Mr Jones&#8217;s wife is then alleged to have grabbed a knife from their kitchen and stabbed him.<br />
local newspaper <a href="https://www.thestar.com.my/news/nation/2018/10/18/british-woman-who-allegedly-stabbed-husband-to-death-in-langkawi-remanded-7-days/#z50wU8SLSKS35FWt.99" rel="nofollow">The Star Online</a> reports that responding police officers found a 12 inch knife was found covered in blood stains in the married couple&#8217;s bedroom.<br />
The knife is believed to be the alleged murder weapon.</p>

<p>The couple had reportedly been given residency in the country on &#8216;My Second Home&#8217; &#8211; a programme which allows people to stay longer than the period granted by a visa.<br />
Back in 2006, Samantha Jones <a href="https://www.thestar.com.my/data/archives/2013/07/05/04/00/many-good-qualities/" rel="nofollow">was quoted as saying</a>: &#8220;We were sitting on the lanai in Pelangi Resort and all of a sudden I just felt it&#8230;wow I don’t think I’ve ever felt so relaxed in my whole life.&#8221;<br />
She was talking about a holiday she and her husband had in 2002 in Langkawi.<br />
&#8220;On the way to the airport, I cried all the way. I just didn’t want to go home,&#8221; she had said.<br />
They had always discussed moving abroad and on their second holiday to Langkawi decided that was the place for them.</p>

<p>They had always discussed moving abroad and on their second holiday to Langkawi decided that was the place for them.<br />
In Malaysia, the death penalty is mandatory for murder, according to reports.<br />
A spokesman for the Foreign Office was quoted as saying: &#8220;We are supporting the family of a British man following his death in Malaysia, and are in contact with the Malaysian authorities.&#8221;<br />
He also added: &#8220;We are assisting a British woman and her family following her arrest in Malaysia, and are in contact with the Malaysian police.&#8221;</p>
