An expatriate British woman who is facing the death penalty in Malaysia after allegedly stabbing her husband to death following a row will be charged with murder, officials said.
Samantha Jones, 62, arrived at Langkawi magistrates’ court on Tuesday morning after nearly two weeks spent in custody.
Her husband, John William Jones, 62, was found by a neighbor, sprawled on the floor of their home on the island.
He had suffered a stab wound to his chest at about 2.30am on October 18, police said

The 62-year-old is facing charges related to murder. She has been remanded in custody since Oct 19 

His wife was arrested on suspicion of murder in the early hours and has been remanded in custody.
She reportedly told police she stabbed her husband in self-defence after suffering years of domestic abuse and violence at his hands.
Her attorney Sangeet Kaur Deo told reporters Jones was asked by a court official if she understood the charge, which carries the mandatory death sentence by hanging.
She said her client said yes.

Jones did not enter a plea as the magistrate court has no jurisdiction to hear a murder case, Kaur said.
The case is expected to be transferred to the high court.
The lawyer added that Jones was “very, very overwhelmed” and grieved for her husband.

The couple who had been living on the island for 11 years, are believed to have had a row in their bungalow in Kampung Gelam, Langkawi, reports claim.
Mr Jones’s wife is then alleged to have grabbed a knife from their kitchen and stabbed him.
local newspaper The Star Online reports that responding police officers found a 12 inch knife was found covered in blood stains in the married couple’s bedroom.
The knife is believed to be the alleged murder weapon.

The couple had reportedly been given residency in the country on ‘My Second Home’ – a programme which allows people to stay longer than the period granted by a visa.
Back in 2006, Samantha Jones was quoted as saying: “We were sitting on the lanai in Pelangi Resort and all of a sudden I just felt it…wow I don’t think I’ve ever felt so relaxed in my whole life.”
She was talking about a holiday she and her husband had in 2002 in Langkawi.
“On the way to the airport, I cried all the way. I just didn’t want to go home,” she had said.
They had always discussed moving abroad and on their second holiday to Langkawi decided that was the place for them.

In Malaysia, the death penalty is mandatory for murder, according to reports.
A spokesman for the Foreign Office was quoted as saying: “We are supporting the family of a British man following his death in Malaysia, and are in contact with the Malaysian authorities.”
He also added: “We are assisting a British woman and her family following her arrest in Malaysia, and are in contact with the Malaysian police.”
