Police say a Texas dad died after he was assaulted while protecting his daughter from her boyfriend.
Eric Garcia of Austin died Thursday following a violent confrontation with his daughter’s 24-year-old boyfriend, Jamie Apodaca, after asking him to leave the family’s home, the Austin American-Statesman reported.
The fight reportedly started Saturday night when Apodaca accused Garica’s daughter of cheating on him and called her derogatory names.
Garcia told Apodaca that was unacceptable in his home and kicked him out.

Police said Apodaca obliged, but later returned and punched his girlfriend’s father inside the house. When the woman tried to stop Apodaca, he reportedly socked her in the face, prompting her father to try and fight back.
The altercation reportedly continued outside where Apodaca punched Garcia again, knocking the elder man to the ground and causing him to hit his head on the concrete.
When his daughter tried to help him, Apodaca allegedly hit her in the head, according to officials.
Emergency crews responded to the home and discovered Garcia unconscious. He was rushed to a local hospital with brain trauma and a skull fracture, authorities said.
Garcia was in a coma before he died Thursday night surrounded by loved ones, according to a GoFundMe page.
Police arrested Apodaca and charged him with aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury. He was booked in to Travis County Jail on $165,000 bail.
