<p class="mol-para-with-font">A 20-year-old from Marion County, West Virginia man has been arrested for abducting a teenager, holding her hostage for a year, impregnating her and beating her severely, kicking her in the stomach until she miscarried.<br />
Brian Merchant-Jones, from Fairmont, is in custody on charges including murder of the fetus and kidnapping.<br />
Court records say the juvenile girl had been a runaway since March 2018 and told authorities last week that she had been with Merchant-Jones the entire time.<br />
She said Jones assaulted her almost daily and limited her contact with the outside world.<br />
Court papers state that the girl &#8216;believed severe physical harm would befall her if she attempted to leave&#8217;.<br />
She said any phone conversations she had were on speaker phone with Merchant-Jones listening.</p>

<p class="mol-para-with-font">Sheriff Jimmy Riffle said: &#8216;We received reports from a juvenile that Mr Merchant was abusive and had held her against her will and had kicked her in the stomach while she was pregnant with child, causing a miscarriage.<br />
&#8216;They moved from residence to residence during that time frame.&#8217;<br />
Police say they moved around Fairmont, Barrackville and Mannington.<br />
She told police where she buried the stillborn fetus, and authorities found the remains at a home in Rivesville.<br />

She said she was also beaten just before her interview with authorities.<br />
According to court documents, she also recalled one horrifying attack in February 2019 in Barrackville, in which Merchant-Jones beat her until she urinated, choked her to the point of loss of consciousness and hit her in the back of the head with a Hurricane 40-ounce beer bottle, <a class="class" href="https://www.wboy.com/news/crime/marion-county-man-arrested-on-murder-kidnapping-and-assault-charges/1894950773" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">12WBOY</a> reported.<br />
On another occasion, the victim said the 20-year-old suspect choked her inside the bathroom, dragged her about the house by her hair and punched her in the stomach.<br />

Merchant-Jones had been arrested on September 8, 2018, by Fairmont Police after he allegedly attacked an a 19-year-old man, punching him in the face with a closed fist.<br />
His victim fell unconscious and he allegedly tried to stomp on his head several times as he lay on the ground. He was charged with malicious wounding.<br />
Court documents state that while Merchant-Jones was in jail for 28 days, he had his associates check on the young woman to stop her from leaving.<br />
Merchant-Jones has been charged with first degree murder, kidnapping and malicious assault. He was arrested Tuesday at 1.30am and is being held at North Central Regional Jail without bail on the murder count.</p>
