A New York City Police Academy sergeant has been transferred from his post over an extramarital affair with a much younger recruit.
Sgt. Michael Anderson was booted from his role at the NYPD academy after officials got wind of his relationship with a 26-year-old rookie cop, law enforcement sources said
While the incident “is under internal review,” both Anderson and the probationary police officer are still on active duty within the department, the NYPD said in a statement.
Additional details of the affair were not immediately available.

News of Anderson’s transfer prompted the creation of a Change.org petition calling for him to be returned to his original role as a trainer at the academy.
“Sergeant Anderson was an asset to the NYPD Police Academy,” the site reads. “His ability to motivate recruits to better themselves is a trait that is unique and difficult to find. He lead by example, expecting nothing but the best from himself and the people that he trained.”
Anderson’s former students quickly flocked to the petition, which garnered nearly 800 signatures and a flurry of supportive comments.
“Sgt Anderson was the best and meanest gym instructor,” one comment reads. “Tough love allowed us to watch a guy in our class lost [sic] 85 lbs from 360.”
“Most ppl would’ve let him fail. Sgt Anderson rode behind him on the final run on a bicycle motivating him to finish. And he passed.”
Another person called him “the face of police training in the NYPD.”
