A New York police lieutenant an off-duty sergeant were stripped of their guns and shields after they were caught allegedly having drunken sex inside a bathroom at their department’s office building on Friday evening.
Lt. Brandi Sanchez, 38, and Sgt. Lambros Gavalas, 46, were both placed on modified assignment after they were caught by two other cops inside the 12th floor bathroom of a federal building around 6.40 pm on Friday.
Sanchez works for the Family Assistance Section, which provides comfort and care to families of police officers who die in the line of duty, officers suffering from debilitating illnesses and 9/11-related illnesses, as well as cops who have family members suffering from debilitating illnesses, officials said. Members offer services and help schedule doctor appointments.
Her companion Sgt. Gavalas, who is assigned to the department’s Grand Larceny section was on duty at the time of the incident. Lt. Sanchez, who reportedly lives with an NYPD deputy inspector, with whom she shares a child, was also on duty, but was about five minutes away from ending her tour.

The sergeant ran out to grab a lieutenant, who ordered the two out of the bathroom, but the couple kept going, according to sources.
After a second warning, Gavales left the stall and the bathroom without saying a word to the two cops. Sanchez remained inside and was uncooperative when asked what had happened.
