<p>A man freed on multiple homicide charges stemming from a driveby shooting two years ago, himself became a victim of driveby shooting on Saturday night.<br />
Jalen Everett was shot around 8 p.m. Saturday while riding in a car on Dewey Avenue near Magee Avenue. The 24-year-old was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.<br />

Police haven’t determined a motive for the shooting, which came over two years after Everett was acquitted in his second trial stemming from the triple killing outside the Rochester Boys and Girls Club on August 19, 2015.<br />
A witness was on the scene, but no suspect is in custody at this time, police sources said.<br />
On Sunday, Police Chief La’Ron Singletary warned about rumors of reprisals and implored the public not to let Everett’s death spiral into more violence.<br />
“A lot of people are drawing comparisons” between his killing and the 2015 shootings, Singletary said at a news conference. “Until you hear it from us in regards to what the motive is, everything else is just pure speculation.”<br />
“Let us focus on the task at hand,” he said.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, people gathered for a vigil near the site of the shooting, images and video from local news stations showed.<br />

Everett was found guilty on three counts of second-degree murder, as well as multiple assaults and weapons charges, but had his verdict overturned in December 2016, after allegations of juror misconduct surfaced.<br />
A second jury acquitted Everett in January 2017.<br />
One other suspect, Johnny Blackshell Jr., was convicted and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the three counts of first-degree murder.<br />
He had been convicted on June 9, 2016 on three counts of murder in the first degree, three counts of assault in the first degree and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.<br />
On August 19, 2015, Blackshell rode in a vehicle on Genesee Street where a crowd had just spilled out into the Boys &; Girls Club parking lot after a community championship basketball game. Blackshell reportedly, fired over 20 shots from the window of a moving vehicle, hitting six different people.<br />
Jonah Barley, Raekwon Manigault and Johnny Johnson were killed in the shooting; three more people were wounded in the shooting. A seventh person was also injured, but was not shot.</p>

Mathis faced murder and weapons charges for the shooting on Genesee Street in 2015 that killed three people and injured three others.</p>
