Durham police charge three men in February home invasion that killed 2 men, injured 2 others

Police in Durham, NC, arrested three men on Wednesday in connection to a home invasion and double murder from February.

Robert Edward Everett Jr., 27, Jamonty Green, 27, and Raymond Lewis, 26, and charged them each with murder, attempted murder and first-degree burglary

Police say that lights were cut from the entire building, and multiple people kicked in the door to the men’s apartment.

All three are being held at the Durham County Detention Center without bond, police said in a release

It’s unclear if the suspects knew the victims.

The Durham Police Department arrested three men on Wednesday in connection to a home invasion and double murder from February 19.
Police arrested Robert Edward Everett Jr., 27, Jamonty Green, 27, and Raymond Lewis, 26, and charged them each with murder, attempted murder and first-degree burglary.
The home invasion, which police believe was pre-planned, killed two people and injured two others.
Two 25-year-old men, Aaron Bailey and Elijah Hose Everett, were killed in their home at the Cadence at RTP apartment complex, two miles from North Carolina Central University and five miles away from Duke University campus.
Police say the home invasion was planned. Lights went out in the entire building. Multiple people kicked the door in and broke in.

Bailey’s roommate, Elijah Hosea Everett, 25, [photo], was also killed in their home at the Cadence at RTP apartment complex, two miles from North Carolina Central University and five miles from Duke University.

Four people were shot, two of them fatally during the robbery. The two others were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Aaron Bailey, 25, was shot in the heart and died before even hitting the ground. Elijah Hosea Everett, also 25, Bailey’s roommate also died from his injuries.
Seven months later, the three men accused of the crimes were charged with the crime.

“He was in his own home,” said Daizsa Jones, Bailey’s first cousin.
“Someone unwillingly came in and took his life. That’s just a saddest part about it.”
She says Bailey was a sweet person who loved his family, basketball, music and God.
“He loved his family. He loved protecting us,” she said.
“He was just a sweet guy. He wasn’t violent. He wasn’t even mean. He was funny. He was caring. He was everything.”
She remembers his laugh, and how he always made others smile.

“I’m going to miss his laugh. His goofy, annoying laugh,” she said.
“He could make everybody laugh. That’s how Aaron was. He can make anybody happy.”
She says it’s terrifying that he wasn’t even safe in his own home.
“The middle of the night. You’re just living life and you get your life taken,” she says. “He was trying to live a good life.”
Jones wanted to speak on his behalf to ensure his memory was upheld. If she could tell him anything now, she said she’d want him to know she loves him like a brother and will never forget him.
“I love them with all my heart. That’s all I wouldn’t want to tell him. I just want him to know I love him,” she says.
Records show that Elijah Hosea Everett, the other man killed in the home invasion, in May 2017, was arrested by Durham police, aged 20, in Morrisville along with an accomplice Mychal Quinton Todd Mercer, 26, and charged with a 2016 Christmas Eve homicide
They were charged in the death of Usha Chatman, 22, who was shot multiple times and killed inside a vehicle on Dec. 24, 2016, in what was believed to be ongoing gang-related tit-for-tat killings
