The 21-year-old uncle charged with murdering his five-year-old niece had blood-colored stains on his pants and ‘filthy’ hands that he attempted to lick clean after his arrest, police say.
On Wednesday, Alexander Whipple, through his attorney, led police to the dirt-covered body of his niece, Elizabeth ‘Lizzy’ Shelley, located just yards from her Utah home, after he struck a deal to avoid the death penalty.
His sister Jessica’s young daughter had been missing for five days.
Police revealed that following Whipple’s arrest last Saturday, officers allegedly found what seemed to be dried blood on his clothes.
When left alone in an interview room without handcuffs, the 21-year-old allegedly tried to lick his ‘filthy’ hands with cuts on his fingers, apparently in the effort to wipe them clean.
During questioning, Whipple told detectives that alcohol makes him ‘black out’ and sometimes he does ‘criminal things.’
He alluded frequently to ‘how evil the world we live in is,’ as he talked about his struggles as a child, according to court documents.

The suspect led cops to the body of Shelley, who was last seen at 2am on Saturday at home in Logan.
According to court records, Whipple was at victim’s home the night she disappeared. Her mother told police she invited Whipple over around 10:30 p.m. on Friday night to drink and play video games with her and her live-in boyfriend.
She said Lizzy and her sister were in bed by the time Whipple arrived, her mother said.
her remains was found at around 2pm local time after an intense search.
‘I don’t know if there’s a reason why other than possibly mental illness,’ the lawyer said. ‘You know, it’s not like a five-year-old girl would do something that would justify someone doing this to her, but I think the answer is going to be in the mental illness of my client.’
