Police were called to a Charlotte apartment just after 10pm on Thursday, Chante Alexander was transported to a local hospital and later pronounced dead
Investigators say they do not know the motive of the shooting but officers arrived on the scene and found the victim with a gunshot wound
Her mother, Elvira Alexander, has been charged with murder and possession of a stolen firearm
A police spokesman said he didn’t know whether the suspect has a lawyer who can speak on her behalf.
On Alexander’s Facebook page, friends expressed shock over the death of a woman they described as a fun-loving person who liked to socialize.
One of her cousins wrote: ‘I love U Cuz Chante Lavarche Tha life of EVERY mf party FACTS!!’
After hearing of Alexander’s death, another friend wrote: ‘“Peace be still” I just can’t seam to go back to sleep after finding out a love one is gone. I love you… You will be missed. Gone too soon. R.I.P. until we meet again.’
Alexander’s aunt, Yvonne Yaqoob, wrote: ‘WOW In disbelief PRAYERS for The Alexander Family ..My Family…RIH To My Niecey… [She] will be missed.’
Donta Gaten wrote: ‘Known you since middle school. R.I.P.’
