The female doctor ‘saved herself from rape’ by biting off her  attacker’s tongue after he attacked her in her sleep
The 24-year-old had been asleep in hospital staff quarters when he tried to put his tongue in her mouth 
The would-be rapist fled the Pelonomi Tertiary Hospital with severe injuries
Police arrested the 32-year-old suspect when he turned at another hospital with a mangled tongue
The injury was so severe part of his tongue had to be amputated

The would-be rapist was taken into custody when he sought treatment for a mangled toungue. The bite was so severe that part of his tongue had to be amputated.
After his arrest he was brought back to Pelonomi Tertiary Hospital where the doctor identified him as her attacker.
The rapist is scheduled to appear in court in Bloemfontein when he is well enough to leave hospital

Free State regional health department spokesperson Mr Mondli Mvambi said: ‘During the scuffle the doctor managed to bite off the tongue of the alleged perpetrator who ran off.
‘He was later arrested and then taken for plastic surgery and was operated on under police guard and he we will be handed over to be taken before a court in due course.
‘It is by the grace of God that the doctor had the strength to fight back and bite the suspects tongue off. She is currently undergoing medical tests and counseling’, he said.
Statistics also show that 40% of women in South Africa are likely to be raped in their lifetime. Figures for 2017 and 2018 in South Africa showed 40,000 women were raped but it is believed the figure is far higher with experts believing nearly 75 percent of rape cases in the country are not reported.
