Neil Kimball, 46, pled guilty on Tuesday in Ventura County Superior Court to felony counts of lewd act on a child and unlawful sexual intercourse [statutory rape].
Ventura Senior Deputy District Attorney Patrice Koenig said in a statement that Kimball was expected to be sentenced to three years in prison under the terms of his plea agreement. He will also have to register as a sex offender.
Kimball met the teen after she called authorities to report that she was a victim of sexual assault in Los Angeles.
Prosecutors said the incident occurred in a mobile home Kimball owned in Ventura County in November of 2017.
Kimball was a detective at the time with the Special Victims Bureau. He was working the girl’s case for the elite Special Victims Bureau when he allegedly attacked the young victim.
He was arrested a year later after a lengthy investigation by the LASD’s Internal Criminal Investigations Bureau.
It was uncovered after one of Kimball’s colleagues was reviewing his cases when he took medical leave, Los Angeles County Sheriff Jim McDonnell told KABC.
The department undertook a review of roughly 300 cases that Kimball investigated for the Special Victims Bureau.

He was called to investigate a case at a Travel Inn and was questioning a group of women at the time, according to documents.
One of women later filed a complaint with the LASD that at one point when Kimball was alone with her, “he forced her to touch his penis for three seconds” and grabbed her buttocks. Witnesses gave contradicting accounts and ultimately the alleged victim failed to cooperate with investigators.
Since his arrest in November 2018, Kimball has been held in lieu of a $2million bail in Ventura County Jail. He is no longer eligible to post bond after pleading guilty.
Sentencing is scheduled for August 8.
