<p>U.S. District Judge Richard M. Berman said prosecutors showed “clear and convincing evidence” that Epstein was a flight risk.<br />
&#8220;The government application for continued remand is hereby granted,” Berman said just minutes after the pretrial proceeding began.<br />

Judge Berman rejected the multimillionaire sex offender’s request of home confinement at the Upper East Side mansion where he is accused of abusing girls between 2002 and 2005.<br />
The defense had proposed a $77 million bail package, with Epstein&#8217;s private jet and Manhattan mansion as collateral: “I doubt any bail package can overcome&#8221; any danger to the community, Berman said.<br />
Berman cited Monday’s “compelling testimony” by accusers Annie Farmer and Courtney Wild and “evidence of intimidation and threats, and compensation paid to potential witnesses.”<br />

<p>Berman also said there were questions about whether Epstein “has been compliant in legal obligations as a registered sex offender.”<br />
During Monday’s hearing, the judge had noted a front-page Post report about how Epstein never checked in with the NYPD, despite a 2011 order by Manhattan state Supreme Court Justice Ruth Pickholz requiring him to do so every 90 days.<br />
