Gifford was arrested in relation to the incident, on charges of assault, kidnapping, unlawful imprisonment, criminal possession of a weapon, menacing and harassment.
The victim claimed he was near East 234th Street and White Plains Road on Saturday when Gifford and three men grabbed him and drove him to the deli at the corner of Bussing and Digney avenues in Wakefield, in an apparent dispute over money.
One of the assailants allegedly pointed a gun to the victim’s face and told him: ‘This is a 9mm. I can blow your head off right now.’
After being taken down a trapdoor into the basement by the four assailants, one of the men proceeded to beat the 49-year-old with the butt end of a rifle, the New York Post reported.
A handgun was then allegedly shoved into his mouth. A machete and large kitchen knife were allegedly also brandished, with the assailants allegedly slapping the blade of the knife against his cheek.
As one man held a machete, another slapped the blade of a kitchen knife against the victim’s cheek, the complaint alleges.
One of the kidnappers then repeatedly battered the victim with the butt of a rifle, before the handgun was pulled out and stuffed into the victim’s mouth, according to the complaint.
“Give us our money!” one of the men allegedly shouted.
Next came a lighter, which one of the men allegedly waved toward the victim’s face as another encouraged, “Yo, burn him!”
Temporarily satisfied, the trio allegedly handcuffed the victim to a metal bar, vowing “No food, no water. You’re gonna s–t when I say you’re gonna s–t.”
Another man allegedly menaced, “I am going to rape your daughter, rape your wife, and kill your family. I’ve killed before in Jamaica.”
Fortunately for the victim around 2 a.m. Wednesday, police searching for two suspects on an unrelated case entered the deli and got worker Richard Millwood to let them into the basement, according to police.
As cops released the battered man Millwood fled before he could be taken into custody. Police are now seeking Millwood, 35, for questioning. He’s about 5 feet, 10 inches tall, and was last seen wearing dark clothing.
Police have not released photographs of the other suspects, but are still searching for them.
Arraigned Thursday, Gifford was held in lieu of $75,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.
