The two shooting incidents on Thanksgiving Day weekend are not believed to be connected.
The first shooting occurred in the early hours on Sunday after a gunman opened fire in Canal Street in the French Quarter.
The mayhem came on the first day of December, with businesses inside the tape demarcated crime zone were already decorated for the holidays. Coincidentally the scene of the carnage was also not too far from another disaster site, the collapsed Hard Rock Hotel’s hanging crane was in clear view, along with Christmas wreaths lining Canal street.
Pictures of the event showed signs of the grim weekend, with the scene and areas around it littered with food wrappers, beer cans and overflowing trash cans.

The second shooting hours later took place in North Dorgenois Street near Hardin Playground at around 12.40pm, just two miles away from the first one.
Two men were killed and two others injured in the brutal violence.
A heightened police presence was already in place in the area because of the Bayou Classic rivalry football game, which takes place on Thanksgiving Day weekend between Grambling State University and Southern University on Saturday night.
NOPD Supt Shaun Ferguson confirmed that a person of interest has been detained after the first shooting. He emphasized that it’s unclear what involvement, if any, the person of interest had in the shooting. Officers said they were just a few feet away from the shooting and initially thought they were being fired at but couldn’t tell where the shots were coming from
