<p class="article__content article__content--intro">A young couple in Melbourne, Australia died in a double homicide Wednesday after been gunned down in cold blood by the bride&#8217;s deranged father as they partied together on New Year&#8217;s Eve.<br />
The couple, 25-year-old Lindita and Veton Musai, 29, were hosting family at their home at 10.30am on new year&#8217;s eve when her estranged &#8216;devil&#8217; father ambushed them from a bush. <span class="article__media-span">The couple celebrated their first anniversary just two days before they were gunned down</span><br />
<span style="color: var(--color-text);">Osman Shaptafaj shot his own daughter and his son-in-law on their doorstep in front of other family members, then failed in a suicide bid.</span><span style="color: var(--color-text);"><br />
55-year-old Shaptafaj, from Altona North then reportedly put the gun to his chin and pulled the trigger. He is the only survivor and is currently under police guard in hospital.<br />

I can&#8217;t even begin to explain how I feel.<br />
</span><span style="color: var(--color-text);">&#8220;How a father can take his own daughters (sic) life is beyond comprehension.. but the devil truly is among us.&#8221;<br />
</span><span style="color: var(--color-text);">Lindita died at the scene and Veton has since passed away in hospital.<br />
</span><span style="color: var(--color-text);">Witness Lewis Thorne told </span><a href="https://www.news.com.au/news/national/melbourne-woman-killed-husband-critically-injured-in-shooting/news-story/4da4a0ed9f09c099872f9e31ec330bdf">Nine News</a><span style="color: var(--color-text);">: &#8220;This guy just jumped out of the bush into my peripheral vision, and then he put a gun to his chin and pulled it.<br />
</span><span style="color: var(--color-text);">&#8220;He got up somehow after that and then about two or three minutes later, he did the same thing again to himself.<br />
</span><span style="color: var(--color-text);">&#8220;I didn&#8217;t know the couple but they recently had a wedding, about six months ago.&#8221;<br />
</span><span style="color: var(--color-text);">Police probing the shooting later found a gun on public land at the end of Salisbury St, close to the couple&#8217;s home.</span></p>

</span><span style="color: var(--color-text);">Lindita&#8217;s friend told </span><a href="https://www.theage.com.au/national/victoria/tributes-for-the-most-beautiful-girl-gunned-down-on-new-year-s-eve-20200101-p53o2b.html">The Age</a><span style="color: var(--color-text);">: “She would always be smiling, always caring for others. She would always dance to Michael Jackson and just make everything fun.”<br />
</span><span style="color: var(--color-text);">&#8220;[Veton] was just the funniest guy I&#8217;ve ever met in my life. He&#8217;s always put a smile on my face.&#8221;<br />
</span><span style="color: var(--color-text);">In footage of the scene after the incident, visibly distraught family members and neighbors could be seen comforting each other as emergency services dealt with the incident and police forensics teams began investigations.<br />
</span><span style="color: var(--color-text);">Police say they are not looking for any other offenders. </span></p>
