Mimi Potter Carre, 18, was dating her classmate who is now accused of shooting her parents, University of Wisconsin professor Beth Potter and her half-naked husband at point-blank range and leaving them for dead.<br />
In some photos that emerged, Mimi appears to be a happy teen. A high school student who didn&#8217;t appear to have a care in the world as she horses around with her brothers, plays with her dog and poses in front of a mirror for a selfie.<br />
But now her world has come crashing down after boyfriend Khari Sanford allegedly killed 52-year-old Dr. Beth Potter — who was helping the university in its response to the coronavirus crisis, along with her husband, educational consultant Robin Carre, 57.</div>

<p class="mol-para-with-font">Cops are still investigating Mimi&#8217;s actions on the night of the killings and whether she played any role.<br />
&#8216;The case is still open and very active,&#8217; University Police spokesman Marc Lovicott said on Wednesday.<br />
<span style="color: var(--color-text);">Khari Sanford was arrested earlier Friday and police previously said he was &#8216;known to the family&#8217; and it was &#8216;not a random act&#8217; .<br />
</span>Sanford and alleged accomplice Ali&#8217;jah &#8216;Huncho&#8217; Larrue, both 18, were formally charged in court in Madison, Wisconsin, on Tuesday with the first-degree murders of Beth Potter and Robin Carre.<br />
Sanford is also charged with using a dangerous weapon.<br />
They each face life in prison if convicted.</p>

<p class="mol-para-with-font">In the court hearing, held via video conferencing because of coronavirus, Dane County assistant district attorney William Brown said: &#8216;This was a brutal execution.&#8217;<br />
He said what had begun as a burglary became a kidnapping and then a homicide where the victims were shot point-blank in their heads.<br />
Sanford and Larrue were each held on $1 million bail.<br />
Court papers show that Potter recently kicked Mimi and Sanford out of their $600,000 home just blocks from the university campus because the teens refused to follow her rules for social distancing during the health crisis.<br />
They had taken Sanford in to live with them a few weeks earlier. He had previously been in foster care.</p>

Mimi initially told police that she had been with Sanford at their apartment on March 30, the night her parents were killed, but analysis of her phone showed she had texted him around the time her parents were shot.<br />
&#8216;At least bring back the car and have someone get you from here. I don&#8217;t feel safe here,&#8217; she texted Sanford.<br />
Eleven minutes later, she texted: &#8216;Why would you put me in this position…&#8217;<br />
Later, after Sanford and Larrue had turned up at the apartment she texted an unidentified friend saying: &#8216;I wanna cry rn but I&#8217;m also in a apartment w them and it&#8217;s literally 2 and a half rooms so that is fun.&#8217;</div>

<p class="mol-para-with-font">The phone also included a picture of Sanford pointing what cops believe is a Glock handgun at the camera.<br />
Prosecutors believe Sanford and Larrue abducted Mimi&#8217;s parents from their home around 11 pm on March 30 and took them to the University of Wisconsin Arboretum where Sanford shot Carre once in the back of the head and Potter in both the head and arm.</p>

<p class="mol-para-with-font">A jogger discovered them around 6:30 the following morning when the temperature was below freezing. Carre, wearing only underwear was dead and Potter, in her pajamas and socks but no shoes, was taken to the hospital where she soon died.<br />
The arrest documents that on the day of the killings, &#8216;excessively sweating&#8217; Sanford visited a classmate and asked him to hide his gun, but his classmate refused.<br />
This friend described Sanford as somewhat excited and frantic&#8217; because he had read on social media that one of the victims was still alive.<br />
While at friend&#8217;s house Sanford allegedly made a phone call to his accomplice Larrue, telling him: &#8216;I swear I hit them, how did they survive?&#8217;<br />
Meanwhile a friend of Potter&#8217;s told police that the associate professor had told her just hours before she was shot that she and her husband had moved the young lovers into an Airbnb apartment because they insisted on flouting the coronavirus guidelines.<br />
&#8216;LG said Beth Potter told her that her and her husband had just moved them out of their house and into an Airbnb,&#8217; the police complaint stated.<br />
As they moved them to the apartment a 10-minute drive away, Mimi had told her mother: &#8216;You don&#8217;t care about me,&#8217; and &#8216;You don&#8217;t talk to me.&#8217; <span style="color: var(--color-text);"> </span></p>

<p class="mol-para-with-font">Potter told her friend that as she and her husband moved the belongings the teens just &#8216;sat in her bedroom&#8230;and ordered food and didn&#8217;t really communicate&#8217; with her.<br />
&#8216;Beth Potter had described Khari Sanford as having been quieter during the move,&#8217; her friend said. Adding that she sensed there was more &#8216;bad stuff&#8217; going on in the family that Potter was not telling her.<br />
&#8216;Beth [Potter] doesn&#8217;t usually get frustrated but was clearly frustrated during their conversation.&#8217;<br />
Potter&#8217;s supervisor at the university said the well-respected doctor had told her that her daughter Mimi and the boyfriend Khari Sanford &#8216;were not respectful to her.&#8217;<br />
The supervisor said Potter had a medical condition that put her at a greater risk of infection and she &#8216;had a need for social distancing.&#8217;<br />
She added: &#8216;Beth was usually very calm, but lately had been acting stressed and not like herself.&#8217;<br />
Mimi confirmed to cops that her parents had moved her out because she did not want to self-quarantine during the coronavirus crisis.<br />
&#8216;Miriam reported that her father had been self-quarantining himself for the past several weeks,&#8217; the criminal complaint said.</p>

<p class="mol-para-with-font">Miriam &#8216;Mimi&#8217; Potter Carre and Khari Sanford were both seniors at Madison West High School, close to the family home. Sanford was a receiver on the school football team. &#8216;Mimi said that she loved her boyfriend, and she was extremely loyal to him,&#8217; the complaint, prepared by officers of the University Police Department, said.<br />
She added that Sanford had been living at the family&#8217;s $600,000 home near the university for the past two weeks.</p>
