In the court hearing, held via video conferencing because of coronavirus, Dane County assistant district attorney William Brown said: ‘This was a brutal execution.’
He said what had begun as a burglary became a kidnapping and then a homicide where the victims were shot point-blank in their heads.
Sanford and Larrue were each held on $1 million bail.
Court papers show that Potter recently kicked Mimi and Sanford out of their $600,000 home just blocks from the university campus because the teens refused to follow her rules for social distancing during the health crisis.
They had taken Sanford in to live with them a few weeks earlier. He had previously been in foster care.
Mimi Potter and Sanford had kicked them out of the house by her parents because they refused to listen to social distancing rules in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to criminal complaint the pair were in need of cash and Mimi told Sanford her parents had ‘bands’ of money
The phone also included a picture of Sanford pointing what cops believe is a Glock handgun at the camera.
Prosecutors believe Sanford and Larrue abducted Mimi’s parents from their home around 11 pm on March 30 and took them to the University of Wisconsin Arboretum where Sanford shot Carre once in the back of the head and Potter in both the head and arm.
Dr. Potter worked at the Wingra Family Medical Center, run by the UW-Madison Department of Family Medicine and Community Health and Access Community Health Centers and her husband, Robin Carre, was an educational consultant Robin
A jogger discovered them around 6:30 the following morning when the temperature was below freezing. Carre, wearing only underwear was dead and Potter, in her pajamas and socks but no shoes, was taken to the hospital where she soon died.
The arrest documents that on the day of the killings, ‘excessively sweating’ Sanford visited a classmate and asked him to hide his gun, but his classmate refused.
This friend described Sanford as somewhat excited and frantic’ because he had read on social media that one of the victims was still alive.
While at friend’s house Sanford allegedly made a phone call to his accomplice Larrue, telling him: ‘I swear I hit them, how did they survive?’
Meanwhile a friend of Potter’s told police that the associate professor had told her just hours before she was shot that she and her husband had moved the young lovers into an Airbnb apartment because they insisted on flouting the coronavirus guidelines.
‘LG said Beth Potter told her that her and her husband had just moved them out of their house and into an Airbnb,’ the police complaint stated.
As they moved them to the apartment a 10-minute drive away, Mimi had told her mother: ‘You don’t care about me,’ and ‘You don’t talk to me.’

Potter told her friend that as she and her husband moved the belongings the teens just ‘sat in her bedroom…and ordered food and didn’t really communicate’ with her.
‘Beth Potter had described Khari Sanford as having been quieter during the move,’ her friend said. Adding that she sensed there was more ‘bad stuff’ going on in the family that Potter was not telling her.
‘Beth [Potter] doesn’t usually get frustrated but was clearly frustrated during their conversation.’
Potter’s supervisor at the university said the well-respected doctor had told her that her daughter Mimi and the boyfriend Khari Sanford ‘were not respectful to her.’
The supervisor said Potter had a medical condition that put her at a greater risk of infection and she ‘had a need for social distancing.’
She added: ‘Beth was usually very calm, but lately had been acting stressed and not like herself.’
Mimi confirmed to cops that her parents had moved her out because she did not want to self-quarantine during the coronavirus crisis.

Miriam ‘Mimi’ Potter Carre and Khari Sanford were both seniors at Madison West High School, close to the family home. Sanford was a receiver on the school football team. ‘Mimi said that she loved her boyfriend, and she was extremely loyal to him,’ the complaint, prepared by officers of the University Police Department, said.
She added that Sanford had been living at the family’s $600,000 home near the university for the past two weeks.
I can only hope they find evidence of their ungrateful Daughters complicity in the murders. Moving ones 18 year old daughters B.F. into your home NEVER ends well. The one thing I always stressed to my Daughter growing up was Never support any man financially. Fortunately that is one piece of my advice she took to heart.
Looks like Mimi the psychopath is still free. Why no accountability for her role in the muders? She set it all up! Robbing and killing the good people who took her in and gave her everything was HER idea. She encouraged her fellow thugs to do it, and supplied the vehicle.
Why does she remain free, and inherit the fortune of her murdered victims? Why is there no justice for Beth and Robin and their sons? At the very least, if you won’t hold Mimi accountable for her crimes, then deport her evil self back to the country she came from – why put more American lives at risk in the future?
How do you suppose she isn’t a natural born citizen of this country?
Was the young couple using drugs? I ask because why would they need a lot of money when they were already being supported in an apartment?
He owed somebody money. His comings and goings were almost certainly related to the debt that he owed this person or people.
I feel sorry for this couple but they are living proof that intelligence and common sense don’t go hand in hand.
