However&comma; investigators later determined the pair had an affair&comma; according to federal prosecutors in Jacksonville&comma; where Nettleton had been sent on temporary duty&period; <br>Furthermore&comma; <br>Each man had &&num;8220&semi;consumed several alcoholic drinks&comma;&&num;8221&semi; according to the indictment&period;<br>Later that night&comma; Tur went to Nettleton&&num;8217&semi;s residence&comma; where the two men fought&period; Nettleton&&num;8217&semi;s daughter heard the commotion and came down to see her father on the ground and Tur standing over him shortly before he left the area and wasn&&num;8217&semi;t seen again&comma; the documents said&period;<br>After Tur went missing&comma; Nettleton failed to tell people leading the search for him that he was last seen at Nettleton&&num;8217&semi;s house when they fought&comma; and the commander instead led them to believe he was last seen at the nightclub&comma; according to prosecutors&period; <br>Prosecutors argued that Nettleton’s failure to acknowledge his role&comma; wasted valuable Navy and government resources&period;<br>In its sentencing memo&comma; the Dept&period; Of Justice recommended Nettleton serve between three and four years in prison noting that&colon; &OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;There is no question that John R&period; Nettleton &lpar;”Defendant&&num;8221&semi;&rpar; misled&comma; concealed&comma; and lied about facts he knew regarding the disappearance and death of Christopher Tur &lpar;&OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;Tur”&rpar;&&num;8221&semi;&period; <br>The sentencing memo adds that&comma; &OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;Although the Defendant was not tried for or convicted of involvement in the death of Tur&comma; the inescapable reality is that if the Defendant did what he should have done—what his legal duty and common human decency commanded—and reported his interactions with Tur when they happened&comma; Tur may still be alive today&period;”<&sol;p>&NewLine;
