ULM professor is killed in alleged domestic murder-suicide in Mer Rouge
Joshua Comer, 39, was shot dead by his father-in-law, on Sunday while both their wives were in the home they all shared
Comer was died following an alleged altercation with his wife’s father, 68-year-old Jack Matthews, at a home in the village of Mer Rouge
Matthews then died by suicide, Morehouse Parish Sheriff Mike Tubbs said
The cause of the row between the men has not been revealed
Deputies found that Comer’s wife and his mother-in-law were at the home at the time of the shooting

A University of Louisina Monroe professor has been shot dead by his father-in-law in a suspected murder-suicide, police say.
Joshua Comer, 39, died Sunday night following an alleged altercation with his wife’s father, 68-year-old Jack Matthews, at the home they all shared in Mer Rouge.
atthews then died by suicide, Morehouse Parish Sheriff Mike Tubbs told KLFY.com.
Sheriff Tubbs said the shooting occurred following an altercation but is not known why the two men may have argued.
Comer is survived by his wife – and Matthews’ daughter – Cheyanne Comer. It is understood she was at the home, along with Matthews’ wife when the incident occured.
Sheriff Tubbs said: ‘When deputies and MRPD arrived they located two females and Mr Comer in a bedroom with the door secured. Officers learned that Comer had been shot by Matthews.
‘We were advised by the females present that they heard another gunshot minutes after Matthews left the room. Deputies conducted a search of the residence and located Mr Matthews in another part of the house.
‘He had died from a self inflicted gunshot wound.’
On a Facebook account believed to belong to Cheyanne she wrote Monday: ‘I am in too much shock to want to see or talk to anyone right now. But thank you for the prayers and offers of help.’
Morehouse Parish Sheriff Mike Tubbs confirmed the Mer Rouge Police Department and the Morehouse Parish Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a shots fired call on Handy Hill Road in Mer Rouge around 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
Responding officers found Comer dead at the scene from gunshot wounds. The alleged shooter, Jack Matthews, was also located at the residence and dead by suicide, authorities said.
Both Cheyanne and her mom are understood to have been interviewed at the scene, The News Star reports.
The bodies of the two men will now undergo an autopsy.
Assistant professor of communication Joshua Comer began teaching at ULM in 2017, the university paper said. His father -in-law Jack Matthews was an owner of Mer Rouge Wholesale warehouse of Sterlington.
