Officers with the Dallas Police Department responded to the home ;shortly after 11am after a 911 call reported a shooting had occurred, according to ;<a rel="noreferrer noopener" target="_blank" href="https://www.nbcdfw.com/news/local/2-dallas-officers-shot-in-old-east-dallas-police/2556461/">KXAS-TV</a>. <br>The shooter reported to be a man with a violent criminal history killed his wife before calling 911 and reporting the murder and then opened fire on police when they responded to the call Thursday, Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia says.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In a news conference Friday morning, Chief Garcia said Sergio Sanchez, 57, called 911 Thursday morning and said he killed his wife at their home on the 5300 block of Bonita Avenue. <br>Sanchez and his wife, Lachelle Sanchez, 32, were both found dead Thursday from apparent gunshot wounds when SWAT officers entered the home around 1:30 p.m.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">When law enforcement finally got into the home, two people were found dead in an Old East Dallas home Thursday afternoon, hours after two officers were wounded when they were shot at while responding to a call at the house.<br>Cops said the man had threatened to hurt his wife and officers ;were met with gunfire when they approached the home.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Sergio had planned to ‘Shoot it Out With Police,&#8217; Chief Eddie Garcia says.<br>As the officers approached the home, they were met immediately by gunfire and two officers were struck.<br>Dallas Police Dept. SWAT was called and a perimeter was set up around the area. A short time later, SWAT went into the home and found both Sanchez and his wife deceased.<br></p>

Investigators believe Sanchez killed his wife before calling 911 and that he then later killed himself. No shots were fired by Dallas police officers, Garcia said.<br>The chief said police received a call from someone who said they spoke with Sanchez before the shooting and that he said he intended to &#8220;shoot it out with police&#8221; and made mention that he didn&#8217;t intend to go back to prison.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Police Chief Eddie Garcia thanked Dallas Fire-Rescue workers for providing cover for the wounded officers to get away from the scene, the outlet reported.<br>&#8216;I would be remiss if I did not point out the amazing work of our fire department who actually provided cover for our police officers to extract our wounded officers out of the scene,&#8217; Garcia ;said.<br>Dallas Police Association President Mike Mata told KXAS-TV that the two officers sustained injuries to their lower legs and were taken ;in stable condition to Baylor University Medical Center, where they are expected to make full recoveries.<br></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">SWAT responded to the scene and officers reportedly tried several times to get the suspect to surrender, according to the outlet.Wounded officer dragged from home after being shot at Texas callout.<br>SWAT officers breached the home at 1.30 pm and found a man and woman dead inside from gunshot wounds, police said.<br>The man is believed to be the person who fired at the officers, cops said, and officers did not fire any shots during the encounter. <br>Sanchez has an “extensive violent criminal history” and said that he didn’t want to go back to prison. <br>“All signs prove that it looks like it was an ambush,” on the officers, Chief García said.</p>
