<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The mother of two young sisters who were found dead floating in a Florida canal has been taken into custody on suspicion of killing them amid claims she was offering to baptize people&#8217;s children in the water. <br>Tinessa Hogan, 36, was taken into custody in Lauderhill, Florida, on Tuesday, a day after her daughters Destiny, nine, and Daysha, seven, were found dead. <br>Police have not arrested her but she is in custody, leading to the belief that they have detained her under Florida&#8217;s Baker Act, which applies to people with mental illness. <br>A <a href="https://twitter.com/i/status/1407900937981673474">video</a> recorded by a local resident shows Hogan being handcuffed next to a tree in Florida on Wednesday. <br>The first girl&#8217;s body was found on Tuesday at 12pm, after it floated past an apartment complex. The other sister&#8217;s body was found eight hours later. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Police were alerted to the scene shortly after noon when a woman in a nearby apartment complex spotted the first body floating in the water. Investigators say there were no obvious signs of trauma on Daysha&#8217;s body. <br>Destiny had pale white hands, and a white substance on her face. Autopsies were completed on Wednesday, although their results have not been released. <br>Neighbors say Tinessa had been offering to baptize their kids in the canal on Monday &#8211; which is the last time the girls were seen alive. <br>The bodies of two young girls were discovered, hours apart, floating in a canal behind a condominium in Lauderhill, Florida, on Tuesday. <p class="wp-block-paragraph">Some told <a rel="noreferrer noopener" target="_blank" href="https://www.sun-sentinel.com/local/broward/lauderhill/fl-ne-girls-in-canal-folllow-20210623-ax5bvshw2ngjddvenbvz6hanru-story.html">The Sun Sentinel </a>that Tinessa had a &#8216;cult like personality&#8217; and wanted to evangelize. She was carrying a bible when she was taken into custody and was shouting: &#8216;I am God! and !I am the devil!&#8217; <br>Neighbor Lawana Johnson told<a rel="noreferrer noopener" target="_blank" href="https://miami.cbslocal.com/2021/06/23/tinessa-hogan-person-of-interest-girls-dead-laudehill-canal/"> CBS Miami </a>of a worrying encounter she had with Hogan on Monday, saying: &#8216;She was in the water swimming, she had a bible and she told me to come here. <br>&#8216;I said, &#8220;Why?&#8221; She said she wanted to baptize me. She say God told her, I say &#8220;God didn’t tell you anything.&#8221;&#8216; <br>Tinessa was taken into custody before police had found the second daughter&#8217;s body. It&#8217;s unclear if police even knew she was the girls&#8217; mother when she was taken away from in an ambulance, not far from the canal where the girls were found. <br>Authorities are investigating if Tinessa was part of a church or a religious organization: &#8216;If you know the family, the children, if you&#8217;re familiar with the relationship, if you&#8217;re familiar with any churches or organizations that they may be a part of, we desperately need to know what the relationship was and how this may have happened,&#8217; Lauderhill Police Lt. Mike Bigwood. said at a press conference on Wednesday. <br>He said he had been told by neighbors that she was offering to baptize their kids in the canal, but he wouldn&#8217;t comment on it. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">He also wouldn&#8217;t specify whether she was being held in jail or in a mental facility, just said that she was &#8216;no longer in the community&#8217;. <br>Neighbor Cheryl Robinson told the Sentinel that Hogan had a &#8216;cult like&#8217; personality. A social media account belonging to someone of the same name includes religious references. <br>It&#8217;s unclear where the family was living, but recent property records for Hogan lists her last address as a home in Daytona, more than 200 miles north of where the girls died. <br></p>
