Soriano, 40, was arrested Thursday morning in connection to the fatal shooting of Young, 31, on Sept 12 in Harlem, New York

Young was taking items from the shower into her building when a fight broke out between her ex-boyfriend and her current boyfriends the father of her child, after her own baby shower around 1 am, on Sunday

She died of her injuries, and her unborn child was also killed by the attack

‘[The gunman] came in chasing the boyfriend,’ said the super of Young’s building ‘They ran through here and out the other side and they ran downstairs’

Her daughters, 15 and six, witnessed the shooting, family said, and looked on as their mother was carried into an ambulance

Young’s ex boyfriend had been stalking her before the incident, said her family

A career criminal with 17 prior arrests was taken into custody Thursday morning in connection with Sunday’s fatal shooting of his pregnant ex-girlfriend after she came home from her baby shower.    
Justin Soriano, 40, allegedly gunned down Shanice Young in front of her two children during a fight with her new boyfriend and father of her child, the NYPD said. It’s unclear if Young was his intended target.
He has been charged with second-degree murder.
Young, who was just five days off her due date, and her unborn baby died, police said. 
‘Our hope here is that this apprehension begins the process of closure for the family and just as important for the community for this terrible, terrible crime,’ NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea said during a Thursday afternoon press conference.
Soriano has a lengthy rap sheet that includes 17 arrests, including gun and drug possession, selling drugs and resisting arrest, was last released from prison in 2018 and was on parole until June 2020.  
Soriano has been charged with fatally shooting Shanice Young, his pregnant ex-girlfriend.

Soriano has been charged with fatally shooting his pregnant ex. Young was bringing gifts from her baby shower into her building lobby at 300 West 128 Street, in Harlem when a fight broke out between Soriano and her current boyfriend.
Young was shot in the head trying to break it up.  
‘[The gunman] came in chasing the boyfriend,’ Jose Morales, the super of Young’s building, said.
‘They ran through here and out the other side and they ran downstairs.’
The deceased mother’s family told PIX 11 that her ex-boyfriend had been stalking her, and was lying in wait in front of her apartment.  
 ‘I helped her put her gifts in the car and I said, “I’ll see you tomorrow,”‘ her father Thurman Young, 57, says.
‘She was going to have her baby in five days.’
She said “This baby is coming in five days, Daddy, get ready.”
I said “I’ll be ready.”‘
Young was unconscious and unresponsive when police arrived at the scene, and she was pronounced dead at Harlem Hospital.    
The victim’s family told ABC 7  that her daughters, aged 15 and six, witnessed the shooting and looked on as their mother was loaded into an ambulance.

Young’s sister, Metania, however, said the narrative of the incident is not accurate.
She was nine months pregnant. Shanice was a victim,” the her sister said.
Later in a post Metania wrote, ‘If last night I knew was the last was the last time I get to see you I would have stayed you would have been alive,’ her sister Metania wrote in a tribute she posted.
‘I can’t believe I let him do this you.’ 
Young’s brother, Teddy, also posted pictures from the shower on his Facebook page on Sunday night. 
‘Tonight was beautiful, baby S can come now #familyties,’ he wrote.

‘I won’t tag you cause a picture worth a thousand words I love you,’ Teddy wrote in a post the next day, which was flooded with comments offering condolences.
‘Come on Fam, we gotta do better than this,’ wrote Young’s friend, Shari Logan, on Facebook.
‘#ShaniceYoung of Harlem was pregnant and killed by her ex after the baby shower.’
‘This was completely #senseless and #unnecessary.’
‘It was a beautiful night,’ Young’s father told the News of the baby shower. ‘Me and my daughter danced, father-daughter dance, and I cut the cake… It was packed. We had music, a lot of food, a lot of drinks.’
‘This right here was a senseless shooting,’ said Harlem Hospital chaplain Robert Rice to PIX.
‘I’m very upset and I’m angry. I shouldn’t be angry as a clergy, but this one here has touched my heart.’
