<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A 20-year-old motorist was filmed being shot in the leg by a Nashville cop after he allegedly caused a car crash that injured a child, then reached for a gun on his dashboard when cops approached. <br>On Monday, School Resource Officer, Byron Boelter, was driving home from work when he stopped at the scene of a two car wreck involving a Nissan Altima with a child in the backseat and a Chevrolet Camaro driven by Rod Reed on the side of the road. <br>When Boelter looks inside the Camaro through the driver&#8217;s side window, Reed is recorded as he&#8217;s reaching into the vehicle where police say a gun was on the dashboard. Boelter yells and warns Reed not to reach for the weapon before shooting him in the leg. <br>&#8216;Why&#8217;d you reach for it, kid?&#8217; Boelter asks. <br>Reed was transported to the Vanderbilt Medical Center where he was treated for the gunshot wound. He was listed in stable condition and arrested after being receiving medical attention. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">After shooing Reed, Boelter calls for backup as an injured Reed lies on the ground crying. <br>Boelter is heard asking Reed &#8216;Where&#8217;s the gun at?&#8217; while holding his gun at him at a distance and tells him &#8216;Just leave it right there, buddy. It&#8217;s OK, buddy.&#8217; <br>Boelter then approaches Reed asking where he was hit and asks him again where the gun is. <br>&#8216;Where&#8217;s the gun, buddy?&#8217; Boelter asks Reed again as he touches his back. <br>Reed responded &#8216;Over there somewhere. I don&#8217;t know, sir.&#8217; <br>&#8216;I was trying to get it out the car, sir,&#8217; Reed said, to which Boelter says &#8216;Come on, man,&#8217; before the bodycam footage ends. <br>Reed has been booked on federal gun and drug charges and was wanted by the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Metro Nashville Police stated. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">According to Metropolitan Nashville Police, surveillance footage from a nearby business showed Reed driving his Camaro erratically before striking the Altima. <br>Boelter&#8217;s bodycam shows the moment the young girl, who appears unconscious, was pulled out of the back seat of the Ultima where the air bags look to have deployed while her mother weeps in the background as paramedics arrive. <br>Police said the young girl was taken to a local hospital where she was treated for minor injuries. <br>Bodycam footage then shows Boelter approach the driver&#8217;s side door of the Camaro also involved in the wreck when Reed passes in front of him and then walks over to the passenger side of the car,<a rel="noreferrer noopener" target="_blank" href="https://www.tennessean.com/story/news/local/2021/12/06/nashville-police-officer-shoots-and-injuries-man-dickerson-pike/6411193001/"> Tenessean.com </a>reported. <br>Boelter calmly tells Reed &#8216;Just leave that stuff in there, man,&#8217; and motions for Reed to move. &#8216;Just go ahead and go. Go. Go on ahead and go, man.&#8217; <br>Reed does not appear to stop and bodycam footage shows Boelter fire two shots through the open doors of the car at Reed, who then collapses onto the grass as Boelter instructs him to stay down and put his hands up. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">MNPD said the gun was recovered at the scene near the Camaro, MNPD said. <br>Metro Nashville Community Oversight said in a tweet that its investigators were also notified of the shooting and responded to the scene. MNCO said the investigators were able to view the scene without incident and then went to MNPD headquarters to watch the body camera footage. An investigation has been opened. Boelter, who has been on the force for 16 years, is on routine administrative assignment pending the conclusion of the investigations.<br>The Community Oversight Board is in place to review cases of alleged misconduct by MNPD. Its next meeting is slated for Tuesday evening.<br>The Tennessean reports that Reed was booked into jail in Davidson County on Tuesday night on a federal felony charge. <br>The charge was unrelated to the shooting, police said. <br></p>
