<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A Bay Shore man was arrested Friday and charged with the ;fatal shooting of a Northwell Health employee ;last week, New York police said.<br>Quay-Sean Renard Hines was arraigned Saturday charged with second-degree murder in the death of 33-year-old Amelia Laguerre, the Nassau County Police Department announced. <br>Laguerre was shot in a publicly-accessible parking garage underneath a medical office complex in New Hyde Park on March 31, hospital and law enforcement officials said. <br>The 30-year-old man who allegedly shot the Northwell employee in a company parking garage is a former boyfriend who stalked her, burned her clothes and became violent with her when she wouldn’t agree to restart their relationship, police said Saturday</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Earlier in the investigation, police indicated she may have been targeted in the attack, possibly by someone she knew. <br>“This person was probably waiting in the wings. If you were down in that parking garage, it’s kind of dim lighting,” Police Capt. Stephen Fitzpatrick said during an April 1 press conference. <br>“He was probably lurking … and then just came out on her.” <br>Quay-Sean Renard Hines, 30, of Bay Shore, was arrested Friday morning in Merrick on his way to his job with the U.S. Postal Service, Det. ;Capt. ;Stephen Fitzpatrick said at a news conference Saturday morning.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Hines pled not guilty at his arraignment ;Saturday at ;First District Court in Hempstead. Nassau County District Court Judge Eileen Coggin ;ordered him remanded without bail. ; <br>Hines allegedly shot the mother-of-one from St. Albans, Queens, nine times on the afternoon of March 31, near her car in the garage at 1999 Marcus Ave., Capt. Fitzpatrick said. She leaves behind a five-year-old son. <br>District Attorney Anne Donnelly called the killing “a particularly callous case.” <br>“According to the preliminary investigation, less than one hour after Hines allegedly shot Miss Laguerre, he went to the gym,” Donnelly said &#8211; an LA Fitness in Levittown. <br>Hines who does not have any prior arrests reportedly, went to the Nassau County police Sixth Precinct to give police a written statement of his alibi the day after the shooting. Hines gave several false statements to police, denying he was ;involved in the shooting. <br>However, after his arrest, the suspect then gave a video interview admitting he was in the parking garage at the time of the shooting, but did not admit to the killing. <br>Capt. Fitzpatrick said USPS employee Quay-Sean Hines had addresses in Rochdale Village, Queens, in addition to Bay Shore. His ex, Amelia Laguerre, a Queens resident, was an employee at Northwell Health for ten years. Police on Saturday revealed the connection between Hines and the victim.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Before the arraignment, Hines, clad in a blue Knicks hoodie, was expressionless as police led him from the Nassau police headquarters building in Mineola toward a black car that would take him to the courthouse. <br>Hines and Laguerre dated for about two years and broke up in late 2021.<br>“Toward the ;end of their relationship. Amelia started to confide in family and friends,” Capt. Fitzpatrick said at Saturday&#8217;s press conference. To those close to her, she described “their relationship as becoming violent and that Quay-Sean had become physically and mentally abusive. He began to damaged her property, burnt her clothes, damaged her son’s belongings. He was suspected of breaking into her apartment in October of 2021,” police said.<br>Hines began to stalk Laguerre and show up unannounced at her Northwell workplace “seeking to rekindle their relationship,” Capt. Fitzpatrick said. <br>“When his efforts were not reciprocated, he would become involved in a heated argument with Amelia and then he would leave.” ;<br>On March 31, Hines allegedly waited for Laguerre to come to her car in the parking garage. <br> ;&#8220;When Amelia came out to her car, Quay-Sean immediately came up behind her,” he said. “He shot at her 10 times, striking her nine times.” <br>Laguerre‘s mother, Emily Laguerre Bennett, was in court supported by about 25 family and friends who sat through the arraignment<br>Hines’ mother also sat in court during the arraignment. <br>A <a href="https://www.gofundme.com/f/donate-to-helo-family-of-deceased-mother">GoFundMe</a> page started on behalf of the victim&#8217;s family said Laguerre was &#8216;working full time while attending college, working towards her bachelors and a better life for her son.&#8217; The fund raising campaign has raised over $7,500, ahead of the $5,000 goal.</p>
