<p>A West Virginia woman who woke up from her comatose state after two years shocked cops when she revealed that her near death experience was caused by a family member.<br>Investigators in the Jackson County Sheriff&#8217;s Office were shocked when they received a call from Wanda&#8217;s nursing home notifying them that she was awake and speaking. <br>Wanda Palmer recovered from her prolonged state of incapacitation to reveal that her &#8216;mean&#8217; brother was the culprit of the attack that almost killed her. <br>Daniel Palmer III, 55, has been charged with attempted murder and malicious wounding for allegedly bludgeoning his 51-year-old sister, Wanda, with a machete, the Jackson County Sheriff&#8217;s Office announced on Friday. The indictment states that Palmer III &#8220;hacked&#8221; his sister and &#8220;left [her], for dead.&#8221;</p>

<p>In June 2020, Wanda was found unconscious, covered in blood, and with massive head trauma at her house near Cottageville. <br>Although her brother had been a person of interest during the investigation, police at the time said that the evidence was insufficient to make an arrest. <br>&#8216;From an investigator&#8217;s standpoint, this is about as rare as it gets. I think it&#8217;s a true testament to the perseverance and the strength of the victim herself,&#8217; Sheriff Ross Mellenger told <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/west-virginia-woman-wakes-2-year-coma-being-attacked-brother-arrested" target="_blank">FOX</a>. </p>

<p>There was a history to their altercation. In a January 2019 Facebook post, Wanda referenced the reportedly strained relationship with her brother. <br>&#8216;My brother Daniel why u trespassed on my mobile home n damage things which u have no right [to] for shame on u god I give u him to deal with,&#8217; she wrote. <br>Jackson County Sherriff Ross Mellenger said that while investigators suspected what had happened before the attack that left Wanda in a coma, they had not been able to make an arrest due to lack of evidence. <br>&#8216;There was no eye witness, nobody lived in the home, no surveillance footage, no cellphone records,&#8217; Mellenger <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://wvmetronews.com/2022/07/15/woman-identifies-suspect-in-her-attack-after-spending-two-years-in-a-coma/" target="_blank">said</a>. <br>&#8216;There was virtually nothing there to move forward on.&#8217; <br>But that changed last week when Wanda woke up from the coma, shocking staff at the facility she was being treated at. <br>Although she sustained brain damage, Wanda was able to communicate with single words and when asked who had been the culprit of the attack she said it was her &#8216;mean&#8217; brother. <br>Deputies questioned Daniel Palmer, but Mellenger would not indicate what if anything he had to say about the allegations.<br>From the onset &#8216;The key to the whole thing lay with the victim herself and with her unable to communicate we were left with nothing,&#8217; Mellenger also told Metro News. <br>&#8216;Now lo and behold two years later and boom, she&#8217;s awake and able to tell us exactly what happened.&#8217; </p>
