<p>The popular Whistler ski resort in Canada, an idyllic ski village in British Columbia was rocked on Sunday by the brazen daylight assassination of a notorious member of Canada&#8217;s Brothers Keepers Gang, a Sikh extremist crime family, and another man. <br>A pair of gunmen fatally shot notorious gangster Meninder Dhaliwal, 29, and his friend Satindera Gill, who apparently has no crime affiliation, outside the Sundial Hotel in the Whistler Mountain ski community, a little past noon on Monday. <br>Dhaliwal&#8217;s family reputedly operates a crime empire which generates over $16 million a year from drug and arms trafficking.<br>Video of the gruesome aftermath shows Dhaliwal, wearing a white T-shirt and shorts and an over the shoulder satchel, face down in the hotel parking lot, in a pool of blood. <br>His pal Gill is seen splayed out on the other side of a parked white BMW where a bystander appears to be trying to aid him, the video shows.<br>Dhaliwal died at the scene and Gill was rushed to an area hospital where he succumbed to his gunshot wounds. </p>

<p>The community around Whistler Mountain, home of the 2010 Winter Olympics, was temporarily locked down by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police as two dozen law enforcement agencies rushed to the scene to investigate.<br>Two men were arrested late Sunday by the RCMP Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, police said. They were not identified, but police said that the double murder was part of protracted violent turf war between the Lower Mainland gang, Brothers Keeper gang and another crime group called Red Scorpions over the last several years. Murders of members and associates of one group are often followed within days or weeks by a retaliatory hit. <br>On July 14, the body of UN gangster Chris Irwin was found in Burnaby. He had been targeted twice in recent months but survived both attempts on his life.</p>

<p>Meninder Dhaliwal was with his brothers Harb and Barinder when Harb was killed outside a posh Coal Harbor restaurant in Vancouver in April 2021. Meninder chased the hitman for two blocks and then stabbed him in the eye, but was never charged in the assault. <br>The accused hitman, Francois Gauthier, <a href="https://vancouversun.com/news/crime/man-gets-life-with-no-parole-for-20-years-for-brazen-coal-harbour-murder">pled guilty to second-degree murder</a> in June 2022, and was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 20 years before the possibility of parole.</p>

<p>A car set on fire in the 3300-block of Ptarmigan Place was related to the murders, but police did not explain further.<br>As a result of the dynamic response and rapid evidence collection by officers, Sea-to-Sky RCMP were able to locate and apprehend multiple individuals,&#8217; Sgt. Timothy Pierotti told the <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://vancouversun.com/news/crime/brothers-keeper-gangster-shot-to-death-in-whistler" target="_blank">Vancouver Sun</a>. <br>Businesses and residents locked their doors and were told to remain there until police gave the all-clear sign.</p>

<p>Scott Cargo was doing some Sunday window shopping in the area when he heard the shots.<br>&#8216;I was out here just simply checking at some bikes… and I heard gunshots,&#8217; he told <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.fox3now.com/brothers-keeper-gangster-meninder-dhaliwal-was-one-of-two-men-gunned-down-in-whistler-village-near-sundial-hotel/" target="_blank">Fox 3 News</a>. &#8216;Then, a little kid from [Mountainside Lodge] came running down, came tearing down here, and said there was a shooting down there.&#8217;<br>Cargo said he immediately told the store employees to take precautions.<br>&#8216;I locked the doors, kept everyone in the store, and instructed everyone to stay away from the window,&#8217; he told the news station.<br>Other video shows mountain bikers, who used the ski resort&#8217;s steep slopes to ride on in the summer months, being kept out of the main strip of the quaint alpine town as police hunted for the suspects.<br>&#8216;Brazen, for sure. Dangerous, for sure,&#8217; RMPC Inspector Robert Dykstra told <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://globalnews.ca/news/9012387/ongoing-incident-with-heavy-police-presence-in-whistler-b-c/" target="_blank">Global News</a>. &#8216;Anybody else could have been hurt in that [shooting]&#8217;.</p>

<p>This kind of gunplay is rare in the resort area. <br>&#8216;Whistler is a very safe community. A lot of visitors come here every year. Violent crime is something that we don&#8217;t see very much in Whistler, so it&#8217;s shocking to see this happening in such a public area in our community. Obviously we&#8217;re concerned and we&#8217;ll be investigating this,&#8217; Dykstra said.<br>Dhaliwal was a known member of the Sikh separatist group Brothers Keepers and the violent Dhaliwal crime family, which Canadian police say traffics in guns, drugs, extortion, kidnapping, murder and car thefts.<br>Indo-Canadian crime rings are the third largest gang organizations in Canada, behind biker gangs and Vietnamese triads, according to police. Sikh-Canadians started trafficking in guns and drugs in the 1980s to fund a revolutionary movement to have the Punjab region of India break off from the rest of the country.</p>

<p><br>In June 1984, Prime Minister Indira Ghandi ordered the army to raid the Golden Temple and some other of the most sacred temples in the Sikh religion, spurring the separatist movement in Sikh communities around the globe. <br>In May, the Organized Crime Agency of British Columbia issued a public warning about 11 men, including Meninder Dhaliwal, who they said posed a &#8216;significant risk to public safety.&#8217;<br>&#8216;Police agencies throughout the Lower Mainland are aware of several conflicts involving numerous crime groups that have resulted in murders and attempted murders in recent weeks in public places. Police are expecting the violence to continue and escalate,&#8217; according to the announcement. <br></p>
