<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Authorities in Mexico have arrested assassin with the moniker &#8216;El Chapito&#8217; after he was alleged to have opened fire on a family birthday party in a drug-related mass shooting that left eight people dead in Mexico.<br>The 14-year-old boy, nicknamed after the infamous Mexican drug lord Joaquin &#8216;El Chapo&#8217; Guzman, reportedly rode up on a motorcycle and opened fire on a family in the low-income Mexico City suburb of Chimalhuacan on January 22.<br>Another man, known as El Nono, was arrested in connection with the shooting, while seven others gang members were charged with drug-related crimes, according to the federal Public Safety Department. The 14-year-old gunman&#8217;s real name was not released.<br>The family were reportedly celebrating a birthday party at the time of the savage attack, which also left five adults and two children including a three-year-old child, wounded.<br>It has not yet been made public what the motive behind the killings was, but drug gangs in Mexico frequently dabble in kidnapping and contract killing.<br>While the adults were taken to the Neza-Bordo Penitentiary and Social Reintegration Center, the 14-year-old was placed at the disposal of a specialized control judge in the Comprehensive Criminal Justice System for Adolescents.<br>While the motive for the particular shooting remains unknown, it is not uncommon for drug gangs to in turf wars, killing rivals encroaching on their territory or as a means of settling outstanding debt.<br>Unfortunately, Mexico is no stranger to child killers and this is not the first case of a young boy getting arrested for committing heinous crimes.<br>In 2010, soldiers similarly detained a 14-year-old boy nicknamed &#8216;El Ponchis&#8217; who claimed he was kidnapped at age 11 and forced to work for the Cartel of the South Pacific, a branch of the splintered Beltran Leyva gang. <br>the teen claimed that he had participated in at least four decapitations. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">After his arrest, 14-year-old Edgar Jimenez told reporters that he was drugged and threatened into committing the crimes. <br>The Reforma newspaper quoted Edgar Jimenez as saying: &#8220;I felt bad doing it. I was forced to do it. They said they would kill me if I didn&#8217;t do it.<br>&#8220;I only beheaded them, but never hung [bodies] from bridges, never,&#8221; he said.<br>Also Thursday, prosecutors in the northern border state of Sonora said they had arrested a woman linked to as many as nine murders in the border city of Mexicali.<br>The state prosecutors&#8217; office said that the woman had outstanding warrants for two killings, but that she had been named in seven other homicide investigations. The office did not say what the possible motives might be in those killings.</p>
