Col. George Bivens said.<br>The fugitive tried to “crawl through thick underbrush, taking his rifle with him as he went,” but a K9 subdued him, Bivens said.<br>“I don’t know that he was particularly skilled,” Bivens said at a press conference. “He was desperate.”<br>As he was escorted to a van by a SWAT team, blood was seen dripping down his face, the result of a minor K9 bite wound during his capture, according to Bivens.<br>Footage showed the double murderer wearing a gray Philadelphia Eagles sweatshirt, which was cut off by officers, presumably to search for hidden weapons. <a href="https://nypost.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/09/F56LefJWUAAipPE.jpg" rel="prettyPhoto"></a></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Residents in the area were alerted to his arrest via a reverse 911 call, CNN reported.<br>Cavalcante was nabbed shortly after police established a new search perimeter near South Coventry Township, where he was spotted Monday night, said CNN, which first reported news of the fugitive’s capture by officers of the Pennsylvania State Police.<br>Cavalcante who is a fugitive from murder charges in his native Brazil, escaped from the prison by wandering to a secluded area of the yard at Chester County Prison, scaling a wall, and climbing over razor wire before jumping from a roof to elude guards.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The already heated manhunt ratcheted Monday night into Tuesday after a homeowner reported firing seven shots at someone matching Cavalcante’s description who broke into his home in East Nantmeal Township.<br>The man fitting the fugitive’s profile allegedly stole a .22 rifle before fleeing.<br>Investigators descended on the location of the confirmed sighting and reportedly, found shoes they believe may belong to Cavalcante.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">SWAT officers in armored trucks along with hundreds of other police officers on Tuesday searched the neighborhood after a helicopter caught a glimpse of the dangerous escapee in South Coventry Township. <p class="wp-block-paragraph">Cavalcante was convicted on Aug. 16 of fatally stabbing his 33-year-old ex-girlfriend, Deborah Brandao, 38 times in April 2021. He committed the cold-blooded murder in front of Brandao’s 7-year-old daughter and 3-year-old son.<br>Prosecutors claimed Cavalcante murdered Brandao because she may have threatened to alert police to an active warrant for his arrest for another alleged murder in Brazil, in 2017.<br>Last month, the Brazilian born killer, who speaks Spanish and Portuguese, was sentenced to life in prison without parole for the murder. He was awaiting transfer to a state correctional facility to begin serving a life sentence when he made his break.</p>
