The arrest is connected to the case of the owner of a Connecticut home who was violently carjacked in his own garage and robbed of his Aston Martin by the violent thugs, leaving shocked neighbors grappling with the mind-numbing crime.
Video footage released by Westport Police Department on Monday shows a man being overpowered and pummeled by two masked thugs before he was forced out of the driver’s seat of his Aston Martin, which they then drove away.
Authorities have since made two arrests – a 16-year-old connected to the violent Westport theft that took place on Sunday, and Derrick McGill, 39, ‘who lives at the home where the stolen cars were found,’ police confirmed.

A 16-year-old boy from Waterbury was also arrested. Police said they’re working to determine 16-year-old boy’s connection to McGill.
Police said two suspects followed a man home and carjacked his Aston Martin right out of his garage. The theft was captured in a security camera video. in a neighborhood, which is dotted with expensive cars and has a median house value of $1.63 million.
Residents in the upmarket neighborhood say the brazen crime has created a palpable feeling of unease among those living there who say ‘it’s stressful’ and they’re going to be ‘more cautious.’.

After a warrant was acquired to search McGill’s home, which is located in Berlin, an hour northeast of Westport, three other stolen luxury vehicles were also found along with the Aston Martin.
Those included, a 2021 BMW 530i that was stolen from Westport on Sept 16 and used in the Sunday carjacking, a BMW stolen from Ridgefield and a Porsche stolen from Rhode Island.
McGill was placed under arrest by the Bridgeport Auto Theft Task Force but does not currently have charges pending in Westport.

McGill He is being held on a $250,000 bond and has been charged with, larceny of motor vehicle, conspiracy to commit larceny of motor vehicle, payment card theft, illegal operation of a ‘chop shop’ and one count of conspiracy to commit illegal operation of a ‘chop shop’ – a body shop that illicitly disassembles stolen motor vehicles and sells their parts.

The teen also faces additional charges for his alleged involvement of the theft of the BMW used in the carjacking including larceny of a motor vehicle and illegal taking of a payment card.
Detectives have applied for an order to detain the teen and if granted, he will be transported to the Bridgeport Juvenile Detention Center.

On Monday, surveillance footage of the attack was released by police showing the moment the Westport victim was beaten in his own garage.
Two masked thugs overpowered him, snatching the keys from his hands before forcing him out of the driver’s seat. The attackers then jump into the car and later race off as the elderly man desperately claws at the door to his supercar.
In a press release from the Westport Police Department, Lieutenant Eric Woods said they responded to a call at 3.50pm about a residential burglary and carjacking on Bayberry Lane.
The victim suffered minor injuries and declined any medical attention.
The suspects were identified as two males that police believe ‘targeted and followed’ the victim to his residence in a blue BMW, now known to also have been stolen.
In the video, the two suspects approached the man in his car as the victim said: ‘Somebody call the police, now!’
Then each carjacker surrounded him and opened the passenger and driver door as the man put up a fight. That is when both suspects attempt to pull him out of his car seat as they shove him on the garage floor.
After they punch and hit him several times, the two assailants hop into the rare sports car and try to back it out, but the victim wouldn’t back down.

At this point the two assailants jointly drag the owner out of his car and shove him to the garage floor before taking flight in the stolen vehicle

They continued to punch the man and backed the car up with the man hanging out of the driver’s door.
A woman can be heard in the distance and she screamed for help from inside the home.

One of the suspects opened the door of the silver Aston Martin next to the expensive sports car in the midst of the attack.
The victim told authorities that when he returned home, the two suspects entered his garage, assaulted him, and forcibly removed him from his car.
