<p>A US Navy veteran who was once touted by Donald Trump as a #MeToo &#8216;victim&#8217; has been accused of murdering his girlfriend and beheading her with an electric saw. Former GOP party official and Trump supporter, Joseph Roberts, who claimed ten years ago that he was falsely accused of sexual harassment was arrested last month for allegedly killing and dismembering his fiancée<br>Roberts, 42, was arrested on September 7, following the shocking death of his his 27-year-old fiancée Rachel Elizabeth Imani Buckner. <br>The recent law school grad&#8217;s body was found dismembered along the coastline of California&#8217;s Alameda Country, <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://themessenger.com/news/joseph-roberts-law-student-accused-beheading-girlfriend-touted-victim-metoo-trump-administration" target="_blank">The Messenger</a> reports. </p>

<p>Her remains had been wrapped in plastic with duct tape which is where Robert&#8217;s DNA was allegedly discovered. <br>&#8216;Joseph&#8217;s DNA was on the tape that wrapped her body, which meant he was aware she was dead, he was aware she was dismembered,&#8217; detective Robert Hansen says. <br>&#8216;He took an active role in wrapping her body, concealing it in plastic garbage bags.&#8217; <br>Prior to his murder charge Roberts had shown interest in government and politics.<br>In 1999, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he became Electricians Mate Fireman Recruit before separating in 2005.<br>After his stint in the US Navy, Roberts was once on track to become the first person in his family to receive a college diploma. <br>However, he was forced to leave campus three weeks before graduation in 2013. He was suspended from Savannah State University after being accused of online verbal and sexual harassment. <br>He eventually completed his studies online, he said.</p>

<p>Roberts denied the allegations and went on to claim he was &#8216;denied due process&#8217;.<br>He shared his story with Betsy DeVos, Trump&#8217;s Secretary of Education, as part of a series of listening sessions on the Title IX guidelines around sexual harassment on college grounds.<br>Roberts said at the time it meant a &#8216;big deal&#8217; to him to be able to speak out. <br>&#8216;Not just because of the situation, just because of where I was at in that stage of my recovery from this,&#8217; Roberts said. <br>&#8216;The only thing I could do is present my story. I just hope and pray that she listens.&#8217;</p>

<p>Roberts went on to make made a name for himself as an advocate for men who said they were falsely accused of sexual harassment in college. <br>He hailed Betsy DeVos as a hero when the education secretary unveiled new Title IX rules bolstering due process rights for college students accused of sexual misconduct.</p>

<p>In an episode of ABC&#8217;s Nightline, Roberts shared his frustration at being treated in a way he perceived to be unfair. <br>He later returned to Savannah, Georgia, where he had been studying and spoke of the fear he held for ever stepping back on campus after being abruptly kicked out. <br>&#8216;An email came from the Office of Student Affairs. You are hereby summarily suspended and if you step foot on campus, you get the threat of expulsion and arrest,&#8217; he said in the interview.<br>&#8216;A couple minutes later, there was a campus-wide email alert with. My picture was almost like a mug shot: &#8216;If you see me, immediately report to Public Safety&#8217;.&#8217; </p>

<p>In sharing his experience on YouTube&#8217;s &#8216;The Exceptional Conservative Show,&#8217; he relived what it was like to be marched off campus after two female students complained. <br>Roberts, who left the school just three weeks before graduation, claimed they statements made about him were &#8216;total lies&#8217;. <br>&#8216;They said things like they were afraid for their lives.&#8217; <br>He said the events nearly cost him his life after it all got too much. <br>&#8216;I woke up not responsive, surrounded by EMTs and firefighters with an empty bottle of alcohol and a bottle of pills&#8230; suicide attempt. That was the worst,&#8217; he said. <br>He eventually completed his studies online and enrolled in law school. </p>

<p>A staunch supporter of Trump, he would join competitive politics while living in San Francisco and attending law school at Golden Gate University, the same school Buckner graduated from before she was killed.<br>In 2020, Joseph Roberts was <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://votersedge.org/ca/en/election/2020-03-03/san-francisco-county/member-republican-party-county-central-committee-assembly-district-17/joseph-c.-roberts" target="_blank">elected to serve</a> on the San Francisco Republican Party County Central Committee.<br>Identifying as a member of the Federalist Society, his main goals were “to bring diverse leadership, primarily conservative thought,” “support the local police department,” and “contribute to a local San Francisco government that promotes policies to unlock individual potential and unleash economic growth,” according to a voters&#8217; website.<br>The party chapter in San Francisco says Roberts has <a href="https://sfstandard.com/2023/09/29/san-francisco-elected-republican-official-arrested-dismembered-body/" data-type="link" data-id="https://sfstandard.com/2023/09/29/san-francisco-elected-republican-official-arrested-dismembered-body/">&#8220;resigned from his role&#8221;</a>.<br>Roberts who is being held in Santa Rita County Jail without bail, is yet to enter a plea on his murder case. Buckner&#8217;s family has established a <a href="https://www.gofundme.com/f/rachel-elizabeth-imani-buckner" data-type="link" data-id="https://www.gofundme.com/f/rachel-elizabeth-imani-buckner">gofundme </a>page seeking assistance with the funeral expenses and to assist in any future expenses and needs for her daughter. So far the crowd funding has raised $83,385 of $100,000 goal.</p>
