<p>A UK husband sobbed in a 999, [911], call after strangling his wife to death in a bid to access her $582,435 [£450,000], life policy pay out. <br>Debt-ridden Robert Hammond, 47, was accused of killing mom-of-two, Sian Hammond, on October 30, 2023.<br>The murder happened at the couple&#8217;s Histon, Cambridgeshire home. He then called the emergency line to put on a show of grief, police said. <br>Hammond denied his wife&#8217;s murder but the guilty verdict on Wednesday was unanimous. His sentencing is scheduled for 23 July.<br>The debt-ridden mortgage broker reportedly, put on a haunting &#8220;act&#8221; as he sought to cover his tracks &#8211; claiming he came downstairs to find his wife &#8220;face down on the bed&#8221;.<br>Hammond added: &#8220;I&#8217;m going to flip her over now. She never sleeps on her front &#8211; she&#8217;s not moving at all.<br>&#8220;I&#8217;m calling &#8216;&#8221;&#8216;Sian, Sian, Sian&#8217;, I&#8217;m turning her over now. No she&#8217;s not [breathing].&#8221;</p>

<p>The caller proceeded to then shed fake tears during the bogus call: &#8220;Oh no Sian. I&#8217;m going to try and resuscitate her.&#8221;<br>The acting was so good that Hammond was praised for &#8220;doing amazingly&#8221; and giving Sian the &#8220;best chance&#8221; as he was given instructions on how best to perform CPR.<br> The reality, Sian was already dead, however. <br>A paramedic later revealed that the grieving husband made no such attempt to save his wife.<br>The monster had actually strangled Sian before immediately hatching a false narrative to throw police off while he played the &#8220;grieving husband&#8221;.<br>Robert Hammond claimed he had sex with his wife, showered then went downstairs at about midnight while his wife stayed upstairs to sleep. <br>Contradicting that false narrative, a postmortem proved that Sian Hammond had been strangled.<br>A fitness device also revealed a &#8220;spike&#8221; in his heart rate between 11.56pm and 12.19am.<br>The data then stopped recording &#8211; suggesting the equipment had been taken off.</p>

<p class="has-small-font-size"><strong>Hammond claimed he woke to find Sian [photo], not breathing in the bedroom. The autopsy proved she had been strangled, leading to his conviction. The couple were going through a divorce before she died</strong></p>



<p>Prosecutor Christopher Paxton KC said this data &#8220;suggested the defendant was involved in some sustained physical activity at a time he claimed to be on the sofa watching television&#8221;.<br>At the time of his wife&#8217;s death, Hammond ran a business called Hammond Mortgage Services. The sinking mortgage company was in debt to the tune of nearly $388,290 [£300,000].<br>Around $258860 [£200,000], of this was owed to Legal and General.<br>Hammond told an agent from Legal and General to call him on the day of his wife&#8217;s death, &#8220;suggesting something may have changed by then&#8221;.<br>When the agent called back on October 30, he told her his wife had died that morning and &#8220;even though they were divorcing she was the mother of his children&#8221;.<br>Hammond spoke to the agent again on November 3, and asked if he could pay the debt off quicker as he would be receiving life insurance and whether the firm could review the interest payments.<br>Paxton added: &#8220;Sian Hammond had been dead barely a week and this was the defendant&#8217;s focus.&#8221;<br>Hammond paid his wife&#8217;s life insurance policy, also with Legal and General, up to date on October 26 to ensure he would benefit.</p>

<p>In court it was revealed that on the day of the murder, Hammond and Sian had spent the day together shopping and using their home gym. <br>Their home CCTV showed that no other person had entered or left the house that night and there was no suggestion of third party involved.<br>Hammond who was arrested for murder on November 10, maintained he had not harmed his late wife. Investigators found he had been putting off paying debts by making claims he had cancer and was getting a divorce.<br>Detective Inspector Richard Stott, revealed that: &#8220;The pathology played a key part in this investigation, and this started to show how Mr Hammond had lied about how his wife had died.<br>“Once the investigation progressed it showed Hammond to be a competent liar and the large debts and financial pressures, he was under became clear.<br>&#8220;His greed and fear of losing his public standing led to him murdering his wife to benefit from her life insurance and to continue to hide his debt and lies.</p>
