<p>Police took four days to arrest Lorincz as they tested her claims, but Owen&#8217;s mother Pamela Dias said she had found &#8216;some peace&#8217; after a jury rejected her claim of self-defense on Friday.<br>&#8216;My heart is a little lighter, and we&#8217;re now on the path of true healing,&#8217; Dias added.<br>Owens went over to Lorincz&#8217;s home on June 2 last year to confront her over allegations she threw a rollerblade at one of her children earlier in the day and smashed a tablet, before swinging an umbrella.<br>Lorincz, an insurance agent, told police during her interview that Owens&#8217; children had been &#8216;trespassing&#8217; on her property, and one had threatened to &#8216;beat her up&#8217;. But neighbors revealed that the defendant &#8216;had a problem with kids&#8217; and would record them before taunting them with slurs as well as waving her guns around in their direction.</p>

<p>Phyllis Wills, 33, recalls that Lorincz would &#8216;harass&#8217; her kids, adding: &#8216;Everybody in this neighborhood has feuded with this lady over our children.&#8217;<br>Other parents said they called her a &#8216;Karen&#8217; after she repeatedly filmed their children and called the police about their antics.<br>&#8216;It&#8217;s an apartment complex. These are children who, you know, they&#8217;re, they&#8217;re going to do things,&#8217; Willis said.<br>&#8216;Every time they&#8217;ve went even in the patch of grass over there, she would be like, &#8216;Get off of my lawn, you b****** or you retards or you N-word.&#8217; She would wave guns at them.&#8217;<br>When interviewed by police, one of Owens&#8217; sons claimed that Lorincz had previously called them &#8216;B******&#8217; and &#8216;jack****s&#8217; as well as saying: &#8216;This isn&#8217;t the underground railroad, slave.&#8217;</p>

<p class="has-small-font-size"><strong>The women, Lorincz and Owens, were neighbors in the same apt complex and Lorincz had called 911 at 8.54pm on June 2 to complain that the children were trespassing and shouting outside her door</strong></p>



<p>Owens reportedly told her son, 12, to call 911 after she was hit by the bullet, with the young boy telling officers she &#8216;was only knocking on the door&#8217;. She was rushed to hospital, where she later died.<br>Lorincz called 911 after the shooting to lodge a trespassing complaint, before mentioning that she had shot a woman on her doorstep.<br>&#8216;I was never intending to kill,&#8217; she told police later. &#8216;I was shaking. I was just so distraught at that point in time. I felt like I was in mortal danger.&#8217; <br>Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods dismissed her version of events as &#8216;BS&#8217;, noting that videos captured on security cameras at neighboring properties &#8216;were the final nail.&#8217;</p>

<p>Woods said accounts from Owens&#8217; children were backed up by the surveillance footage seen by cops.<br>&#8216;There are things that people say that we&#8217;re able to prove is a yellow flag – a b******t flag – and say no that is wrong,&#8217; he told a local station.<br>&#8216;She couldn&#8217;t see through the door, she couldn&#8217;t see the individual. So her comments that she was in fear of her life… raises the hair on the back of our neck.&#8217;<br>Investigators found two surveillance cameras inside Lorincz&#8217;s home, with one facing the patio and the other attached to the sliding door.<br>She told them that the cameras were functional but only record motion and &#8216;at night sometimes do not capture anything.&#8217;</p>

<p>The cameras are accessible through her phone, and after initially declining to give the passcode, Lorincz handed over the phone.<br>Officers could not see any recording after 8.40pm the night of the incident, but Lorincz denied deleting any recordings.<br>It later emerged she had been left in possession of her phone for two hours after being placed inside of a police car – and footage showed her accessing it briefly, but investigators were unable to determine what she had done with it.<br>Family members had called for the manslaughter charge to be upgraded to murder, but one exclaimed &#8216;Oh, God. Thank you, Jesus,&#8217; as the jury delivered its verdict on Friday.<br>Florida law allows for the use of deadly force if a person &#8216;reasonably believes&#8217; their life is in imminent danger. But the jury decided that Lorincz had no reason to believe that when she shot the unarmed mother standing outside her locked front door.</p>

<p>&#8216;Not only was Susan Lorincz on trial today, but so was &#8216;stand your ground&#8217; and how that&#8217;s defined,&#8217; attorney Anthony D. Thomas said afterwards.<br>&#8216;I think we made one step closer with case law and defining what &#8216;stand your ground&#8217; actually means.<br>&#8216;No, you cannot claim to be in fear of your life. No, you can&#8217;t bait the police by telling them you&#8217;re in fear for your life over the phone to make sure they hurry up and get there,&#8217; Thomas said.<br>Judge Robert Hodges ordered that Lorincz be held in the Marion County jail without bond until her sentencing at a later date.</p>
