<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Zeerust Regional Court in South Africa has sentenced police officer, Annius Mmutle, 50, to double life imprisonment for killing his estranged wife and her boyfriend. The incident happened on March 14, 2023, in Zeerust, North West Province. <br>Mmutle pled guilty in the Zeerust Magistrate&#8217;s Court in May. <br>The court ordered that both sentences should run concurrently, and the former law enforcement officer was declared unfit to possess a firearm. <br>Mmutle, a Detective Warrant Officer, stationed at Nietverdint police station, at the time was separated from his wife, Motshegwa, as they were experiencing marital problems. Motshegwa Mmutle was also a police officer based at the Kopfontein Port of Entry, which links South Africa and Botswana.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Sivenathi Gunya, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Communications Officer of North West Division, in a statement on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, said that on the day of the incident, the accused followed his wife Motshegwa Mmutle, 44, her boyfriend Katlego Selokwane, 33, and her friend going to the friend&#8217;s residence. <br>Shortly after Party of three arrived, Mmutle entered the residence and started to shooting, firing an estimated 12 shots. Motshegwa Mmutle and Katlego Selokwane were both killed instantly, while their friend managed to escape. <br>Mmutle then called police and turned himself in.
