Texas police say they ‘have identified suspect and five witnesses’ in ‘negligent manslaughter’ shooting death of British woman, 23, at her father’s US home

Three days after Lucy Harrison, from Cheshire, UK, was killed at the house in Prosper, Texas, on January 10, US authorities have launched a manslaughter investigation

Coroner’s report stated that the 23-year-old died of a gunshot wound to the chest and she ‘was shot by another person’

Lucy was shot on the day she was due to fly back to Manchester after spending Christmas with her dad Kris Harrison, stepmom and younger siblings at her father’s house in the US

The case is classified as ‘criminally negligent homicide’ – two of the witnesses are minors, police said

A suspect and five witnesses have been identified in the death of a British woman who was shot dead at her father’s home in the US, according to a police report. 
Lucy Harrison, 23, from Cheshire, was killed at the house in Prosper, Texas, on January 10 – with cops yesterday launching a manslaughter investigation. 
A coroner found she died of a gunshot wound to the chest and she ‘was shot by another person’.
Lucy had been due to fly back to Manchester on the day she was shot after spending Christmas in the States. Heartbreaking photos shared on Facebook show the 23-year-old playing in the snow with her two younger siblings, a few hours before she was murdered.

An official from the Town of Prosper said a “thorough investigation” into the “tragic incident” had been carried out by the Prosper Police Department and a file had been passed to the Collin County District Attorney (DA) for review.
A heavily-redacted police report from the Prosper Police Department confirmed the case was being investigated as a ‘criminally negligent homicide’. The document said a ‘suspect’ had been identified in the case, as well as five witnesses, two of whom are minors.  
It is understood a Grand Jury will now decide behind closed doors if a criminal case should move forward.

An official from the town of Prosper said a ‘thorough investigation’ had been carried out and a file has been passed to the Collin County District Attorney for review. 
Under Texas law, someone can be charged with criminally negligent homicide if a person’s death was caused by careless or reckless behaviour. 
A conviction can lead to jail time, fines and a permanent criminal record. 
An inquest into Lucy’s death has been opened in the UK with a full hearing due to take place at Warrington Coroners’ Court on March 28.
A written report from the inquest opening read: ‘Ms Harrison was on holiday in the USA when she was fatally shot with a firearm.’
It said that the time of death was 3.47 pm local time on January 10. The autopsy was carried out at 9.10am on January 13.
It comes as Lucy’s ‘utterly heartbroken’ mother and boyfriend paid tribute to her in a statement.
They said the 23-year-old was ‘unashamedly loved’ and ‘truly thriving in life’ when she died.

Lucy’s dad is now married to Heather Harrison. She had flown in from the UK to spend the Yuletide season with her dad, stepmom and younger siblings at the property in Prosper, Texas. She was shot dead at the home on the day she she was due to depart for Manchester

Lucy Harrison was pronounced dead at the Baylor Scott and White Medical Center in Texas shortly before 4pm on Jan 10. The coroner’s report also confirmed the former Manchester Metropolitan University student tested negative for alcohol and drugs

 The statement released through Cheshire Police read: ‘Lucy was life. She lived it fiercely and fearlessly, not being afraid to feel all that life has to offer.
‘Lucy unashamedly loved – she had a huge capacity to love and be loved.
‘She was the embodiment of wonderful contradictions; she adored travel and being away, experiencing new places and cultures, yet at the same time, she loved nothing more than snuggling up in her pajamas with her candles on at home.
‘She could be dramatic and elaborate situations like it was the end of the world, yet she could also be straight talking and [was] not afraid to have bold conversations.
‘She was truly thriving in life and although this gives us great comfort, we are utterly heartbroken at the loss of our beautiful, gorgeous Luce.’

Harrison used to work in Saudi Arabia but is now employed by a US based fiber-optic firm, according to his LinkedIn profile. His daughter’s funeral will be held at St Elphin’s Parish Church in Warrington, UK, on Monday, February 24.
