<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Unfolding irony led to tragedy in Florida on Saturday when a gunman opened fire on tourists solely motivated by racist considerations. The shooter Jewish American, Mordechai Brafman, opened fire on two Israeli Jews after mistaking them for Palestinians, according to authorities, sending them to the hospital after an encounter Saturday night in Miami Beach, police said. <br>Brafman, 27, was arrested and charged with two counts of attempted murder after opening fire on Ari Rabi and his father on Saturday. According to police, the gunman unleashed a fusillade with a semiautomatic handgun at the father and son visiting from two Israeli.<br>According to arrest documents, Brafman while in custody allegedly told officers he believed the two men were Palestinian. </p>

The shooter reportedly unleashed 17 shots during the rampage. Images of the the victims&#8217; Hyundai showed the vehicle riddled with bullet holes. <br>Following the shooting, surveillance cameras captured footage of Rabi and his father driving to an apartment building before frantically trying to gain entry to the property.<br>After his arrest, Brafman told officers: &#8216;I saw two Palestinians and shot and killed both.&#8217;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">One bullet hit Rabi in the left shoulder while his father was grazed by a bullet in his left forearm. <br>Speaking with <a class="" href="https://www.cbsnews.com/miami/news/israeli-man-speaks-out-after-surviving-miami-beach-shooting/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">CBS News</a> on Monday, Rabi told the outlet that him and his father and had been visiting Miami Beach when they were fired upon. <br>He said: &#8216;Boom, boom, boom, boom. I got hit in the shoulder. One of the bullets missed my father&#8217;s head.<br>&#8216;Some guy thought we were Palestinians and he just started shooting. Seventeen bullets, only one hit.&#8217;<br>&#8216;The last thing I want to say is thank God for life. A life shouldn&#8217;t just be taken away from anyone. <br>&#8216;It doesn&#8217;t matter who you are, what religion you are, or where you&#8217;re from. People should just live in peace.&#8217;<br>In a now deleted post to Facebook shortly after the incident, he also said: &#8216;My father and I went through a murder attempt against anti-Semitic background. <br>&#8216;They tried to murder us in the heart of Miami but the creator of the world is with us so he didn&#8217;t go.&#8217; </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">His post added the comment &#8216;death to the Arabs&#8217;, which has since sparked backlash. <br>The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) Florida chapter called for federal hate crime charges in the shooting. <br>Nihad Awad, Cair&#8217;s national executive director, said: &#8216;It is deeply ironic and telling that both the alleged pro-Israel perpetrator and the pro-Israel victim in the Miami Beach shooting reportedly hold racist anti-Palestinian views.<br>&#8216;This just the latest example of the hate targeting the Palestinian-American community in this country and Palestinians in their homeland. <br>&#8216;Policymakers in our nation should stop fomenting the anti-Palestinian hate that led to the genocide in Gaza and to hate crimes in America.&#8217; <br>Brafman gave his occupation as plumber to arresting officers, state records indicate he is the authorized representative of White Collar Plumbing. Interviewed last year following the vandalization of a bagel shop in Miami Beach that was flying the Israeli flag, Brafman said: &#8216;It’s absolutely abhorrent. I’d love to see some unity and people coming together and fighting less and being together more.&#8217;</p>
