He later testified against his mother and Gifford told a court that he had been exposed to drug use in his youth and detailed how and when his mother began molesting him

Doreene Gifford who claimed she is innocent, was sentenced in 2015 to 8-20 years behind bars over charges of attempted sex assault after taking a plea deal

Gifford was then left to help raise his younger siblings including his own brother, 15, who may also be his son

The sibling at the center struggles with cognitive difficulties now lives with Logan who has temporary custody

The DNA outcome will determine whether the petition will be continue as a paternity hearing or a custody matter

A 26-year-old Nevada man who was repeatedly raped by his own mother from when he was 10, fearing his younger brother might actually be his own son, has filed a paternity petition for verification. 
Logan Gifford was frequently sexually assaulted at home in Las Vegas, by Doreene Gifford for six years from the age of 10 until he was 16. Born in 1998, Logan Gifford was about to turn 11 when his brother was born in 2009.
The attacks only stopped when he reported his mother her to police and later testified against his mother. The eldest of four brothers, from thee age of was 17, he had to start caring for his younger siblings when Doreene took a plea deal on charges of attempted sex assault.
The judge ordered her to serve an 8-to-20-year prison sentence and register as a sex offender after the victim told the court that he had been exposed to drug use in his youth, recounting how the incestuous rape by his mother began.
Doreene has maintained that she is innocent, however the complainant’s testimony during the preliminary hearing back in 2015, detailed how she brought him into the bedroom shared with his father, Theodore, in which a pornographic video was playing, then proceeding to perform sex acts on him.

Another instance of sexual abuse he said, occurred in late 2008, around the time his brother would have been conceived. Additional acts of sexual abuse followed over the next few years, until it ceased in 2014, when he revealed the crime.
Following his mother’s incarceration due to the reprehensible rape of her own minor offspring, Logan Gifford then had to help raise his younger siblings, including the said brother he now believes could be his child. 
Children born as a result of incest are at a higher risk of genetic disorders and disabilities. The 15-year-old boy, whose identity Gifford has withheld being a juvenile, also struggles with cognitive difficulties.
He revealed that his sibling was born around the time of the sexual assaults, and that he believes he could be his father. 
He told the outlet: ‘Look at the mess that I’m left with. I didn’t ask for any of this’.

Gifford revealed that his mother while on parole attempted to contact him through a third party and tried to friend one of his brothers on Facebook.  
He has filed a paternity petition in the Las Vegas courts, seeking to verify if his sibling is instead his offspring. According to the petitioner, his brother could have been conceived around late 2008 when another instance of sexual abuse took place. 
He recalls having grown up around child protective services, and one of his brothers, Liam dying at the age of 3 in a pool drowning incident.

Other acts followed he said, over the years until around 2014.
Doreene Gifford subsequently accepted a plea in the case, of attempted assault sexual assault and attempted lewdness with a child in the form an an Alford plea, that sees a defendant concede only that prosecutors have enough evidence for a conviction. 
Her public defender said in a memorandum at the time of her sentencing that son harbored animosity towards his mom, that his version of events was littered with inconsistencies. 
The defense attorney note that Doreene Gifford was brought up around abusive parents who were in and out of prison, an abusive foster system as a child, couple with an abusive marriage and later abusing crystal meth herself.
Gifford added: ‘I was a child when all of this happened and yet now I’m responsible for picking up the pieces of something that really is still continuing to have an impact in my life and dragging me to deal with that.

‘I feel that as though it is my obligation or my duty to (him) to do this and find out who his biological father really is.’
‘I was 17 at the time. That threw me for a loop,’ said Gifford who revealed that it during a visit to a therapist that the idea was raised that he could be the father of his brother. The teenager who receives a disability check and is now living with Logan Gifford who has temporary guardianship. Previously he had been living with Logan’s father, Theodore Gifford, until January when he moved in with his elder sibling. 
If it turns out that Gifford is the father, the ongoing court case will become a custody matter. If he is not the father, the matter will remain a guardianship case. 
The petitioner remarked: ‘To sit here and say that my brother may be the product of my sexual assault is a very visceral thing to think about as a male survivor.
‘But he’s here now. There’s no going back and undoing anything. And he deserves to have a quality of life where he’s comfortable, where he can be a kid.’
According to his lawyer determining paternity is more of a challenge since the two brothers would both have Theodore’s DNA, whether or not Gifford is the father, adding that the mother who has denied that her eldest boy fathered her 15-year-old son, is not contesting his client’s wish to conduct a paternity test.
