Latigue got home from work on March 16, and found the front door of their Toledo home unlocked, her granddaughter missing and her calls going to voicemail 

Darnell Jones, the last person to the teen, then claimed his daughter had called him earlier that evening because she was scared to be home alone

Jones said he went over with his cousin to see his daughter, stayed till midnight and left, but conflicting versions in subsequent police interviews led to initial charge for abduction

Jones who then fled to Columbus was shot by police during his arrest on Tuesday morning, because he allegedly fired at SWAT officers who returned fire

He‘s hospitalized with non-fatal injuries, with his court arraignment scheduled for today, Wednesday, March 26

An Ohio father has been accused of abducting, raping and killing his 13-year-old daughter after her body was found inside an abandoned house.
Kei’Mani Latigue, 13, was reported missing from her home in Toledo, after her grandmother, Dorothy Latigue, raised the alarm on March 16 when she arrived to find the front door of their Toledo home unlocked.
Her granddaughter’s keys and glasses were at the house. The 13-year-old can’t see without her glasses, Dorothy Latigue said, adding that the child’s glasses in her underclothes were by the couch in the front. Her pajamas were on the dining room floor.” She also said the stove was on and she could smell gas.
The teenager’s father Darnell Jones, 33, then claimed she had called him earlier that evening and said she was scared to be home alone.  Jones claims he saw his daughter that Sunday night and was believed to be the last person to see her alive. Jones said he saw his daughter late Sunday night after she called him and said she was afraid to be home alone.
“I came over here because she said that it seemed like somebody was trying to break into the house. Me and my cousin sat over here for an hour and we left around 12:30 ish,” he told police.
The next day Monday, the teenager never showed up for school and her cell phone was going straight to voicemail.

Latigue, who was the child’s legal guardian, said she came home from work that night her granddaughter was allegedly nowhere to be found. 
Kei’Mani’s mother, Tiara Kasten, confirmed that her mother ‘gave [the dad, Darnell Jones] permission’ to come to the house. 
Jones on the other hand, was initially only charged with abduction after after he offered investigators conflicting versions of his interaction with his daughter. Where she was and what he did with her between his initial interview and several subsequent police interviews.
When officers confronted Jones, he reportedly brandished and fired a gun at an officer. Though the officer was not hit,SWAT officers returned fire, hitting the murder suspect. He was hospitalized and is expected to survive his injuries.
The alleged child rapist and killer, who also known as Darnell Ogletree, in the interim has been charged in Franklin County Municipal Court with “knowingly cause or attempt to cause physical harm to a peace officer with a deadly weapon.”

On Friday, the Toledo community launched an unsuccessful search party for Kei’Mani, who has been described as a kind and caring rule-follower, which is why her mother and grandmother were certain she did not just run away. 
‘I have not slept in three days, I have not eaten in three days,’ Kasten said on Friday. 
‘I have never had a seizure before and I’ve had three.’ 

The search ended tragically on Monday when Kei’Mani Latigue‘s mangled and abused body was found in this abandoned Toledo home

 The agony only worsened on Monday when the missing person’s search came to an abrupt halt with Kei’Mani Latigue’s mangled and abused body being found inside an abandoned home in Toledo.
As an anxious Kasten waited outside of the home,for authorities to confirm the identity of the body, she told WISTV, ‘I just want to know if it’s my baby.’
Kei’Mani’s 14th birthday was just days away from when her body was discovered. This teenager ‘was murdered, raped, had her hands cut off and her throat almost cut off,’ police sources revealed. One law enforcement veteran said, ‘This is one of the most horrific cases I’ve ever heard of.’

Kei’Mani’s mother, Tiara Kasten, said her mother ‘gave [the dad, Darnell Jones,] permission’ to come to the house. Jones has been accused of perpetrating a mind numbing crime on his daughter

An autopsy revealed she died of ‘incised wounds of the neck’ and her death was ruled a homicide. Police charged Jones with murder and felonious assault. 
The alleged murderer was apprehended on Tuesday morning in Columbus and was shot by police during his arrest because he allegedly pulled a gun on the officers, police said in a press conference. 
Jones was taken to the hospital and is said to be in stable condition. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Franklin County on Wednesday.

City officials have said the Toledo home where Kei’Mani was found in will be demolished at the end of her murder investigation

The Toledo home Kei’Mani was found in will be demolished at the end of her murder investigation, a city spokesperson told ABC 13. 
‘What happened here was an unspeakable tragedy and we hope removing the structure can be part of the effort to help the community heal,’ they said. 
Meanwhile, Kei’Mani’s grandmother has claimed she is scared for her own safety as a ‘mob’ was allegedly formed outside of her home after her granddaughter’s body was found.
Fearful the people gathered outside of her home would harm her, Kasten was escorted by police out of her home in handcuffs on Monday night, not because she was being arrested, the aim was to alleviate the palpable tension.

The grandmother tearfully confessed she regretted letting Kei’Mani see her father on March 16. 
‘I feel deceived, I feel like this was pre-planned,’ she told WTOL11. 
The teenager was a basketball player at Spring Elementary school and was set to be recognized this week at the school’s Honor Roll Assembly. 
‘Kei’Mani will be remembered as being very personable and someone who got along well with others.’ 
‘She was phenomenal. She was like no other kid her age,’ Latigue said.
