<p>A 27-year-old father from the Cape Winelands in the Western Cape Province of South Africa, has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for creating and distributing child pornography involving his own children. <br>The man, whose identity is being withheld to protect the victims, was convicted by the Paarl Regional Court for a laundry list of offenses, including rape, child trafficking, and the possession and distribution of child pornography. <br>In a crime described by the prosecutor as a grave violation of parental duty, the man admitted to using his minor daughters, aged six and four, and one-year-old infant son to produce child pornographic material, which he sold online. <br>According to South Africa&#8217;s National Prosecuting Authority [NPA], the unemployed stay at home dad since marrying the children&#8217;s mother in 2018, committed the crimes while watching the children. <br>“He decided to create child pornography for financial gain, as the conversion rate at the time was R18 to the dollar,” said NPA spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila. <br>“He connected with the group after the administrative user approved his access to the group, and he started to communicate with the administrative user.”<br>The man prosecutors told the court, used a messaging-based social media platform that enabled real-time sharing of images, then he engaged with others involved in the online exploitation of children. <br>He admitted to creating and distributing sexually exploitative content involving his own children, receiving between $5 and $10 per sale.<br>His activities were uncovered through an undercover operation by a U.S. FBI task force investigating online child exploitation. Information gathered by the Washington field office was shared with South African authorities, leading to the man&#8217;s arrest on May 30, 2023.<br>Authorities confiscated his electronic devices and a search of his cellphone revealed evidence of the crimes. <br>He was charged and convicted on multiple charges, including two counts of trafficking in persons for online exploitation, four counts of rape, three counts of benefiting from child pornography.<br>He was also convicted on 629 counts of possession of child pornography, three counts of unlawful distribution, and three counts of child abuse.<br>According to Evadne Kortje, the lead prosecutor for the state in the case, the defendant abused his parental privilege and the trust relationship he had towards his three small children and “contributed to the sexualization of children whose innocence should have been protected and preserved at all costs.”<br>The Regional Court magistrate sentenced the errant father to an effective 35-year direct imprisonment. He will serve at least two-thirds of the sentence before being eligible for parole. <br>He has been placed on the national sex offenders registry, banned from working with children and possessing firearms.</p>
