<p class="wp-block-paragraph">An Iranian army sniper and two suspected terrorists are among 15 persons of Iranian nationality considered illegal migrants living in the US who have been arrested by ICE since Sunday. <br>Ribvar Karimi, who served as an Iranian Army sniper from 2018 to 2021, was arrested in rural Alabama, where he has been living with his American wife. <br>According to DHS when ICE agents accosted him in the town of Locust Fork Sunday, Karimi had an Islamic Republic of Iran Army identification card on him. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Karimi entered the country legally on a K-1 visa, for foreigners engaged to be married to Americans, in October under the Biden administration. <br>After a five-year-courtship Karimi had gone on to wed his fiancée, Morgan Gardener, in January this year &#8211; within the 90-day period following approval of his K1 visa, as required by law. So far Karimi has not adjusted his status. Although Karimi has a 15-year-window to meet the legal requirement of applying for a Green Card. However having not met this requirement within 5 months of his wedding, according to DHS, makes his presence in the US illegal.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">On Monday, Mohammad Hassanpoor, 45, was arrested by ICE agents in Baltimore and given a &#8220;Third County Notice.&#8221; He was previously criminally convicted of &#8220;assault with a deadly weapon or force likely to produce great bodily injury,&#8221; and sentenced to serve one year in jail. He was also previously sentenced roughly three months behind bars for domestic violence and stalking for which he was sentenced to two years in prison.<br>Kaveh Abedi, 45, was arrested in Chicago on Monday for &#8220;violations of the Immigration and Nationality Act&#8221; and had a 2001 conviction for selling cocaine.<br>In Arizona, Arish Rustami who has a prior sex offense, was taken into ICE custody on Monday. Agents also arrested Abdolmohammad Raghibzadeh who’s had a deportation order since November 2005.<br>Raghibzadeh previously faced arrests for domestic violence, vandalism and intimidation in 1999. and faced 90 days in jail and five years of probation as a result. He faced two other arrests and jail time for &#8220;violations of probation of the previous crimes.&#8221;<br>In May 2006, Raghibzadeh could not get proper paperwork to go back to Iran, so he was given an &#8220;order of supervision&#8221; and then released. But in 2007, he was arrested again by sheriffs in Santa Ana, Calif., for violating terms of his probation and had to serve out the sentence.<br>In Forth Worth, Texas agents arrested Sahand Yousefinasrabadi on Monday. Following his conviction in for aggravated sexual assault of a child in 2013, an immigration judge ordered that he leave the U.S. in October.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A day earlier, on Sunday June 22, agents in Minnesota took Iranian national, Mehran Makari Saheli, into custody. Department of Homeland Security claimed that Saheli, a former member of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, admitted connections to Hezbollah. <br>Furthermore, the 56-year-old already has a conviction for felon in possession of a firearm. He has served 15 months in a US prison.<br>Despite being ordered out of the country on voluntary departure by a judge on June 28, 2022, Saheli evaded authorities and has remained in the country.<br>Karimi and Saheli both are now in ICE custody pending removal. <br>On her part Morgan Gardener insists her husband Karimi loves America and is a proud immigrant. <br>&#8216;This man loves America, the first purchase he made when he got here was an American Flag.&#8217; <br>Morgan Gardner who is seven months pregnant and fears she will be forced to give birth alone, <a class="" href="https://www.cbs42.com/news/local/ice-detains-iranian-national-in-bibb-co-2-months-before-wife-gives-birth/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">said</a>: &#8216;If [Karimi], was here on bad intentions, he wouldn’t have done that, he wouldn’t be willing to walk around with a flag, knowing he could get deported and sent back to a country where he could be killed for that.&#8217; </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Department of Homeland Security announced that over the weekend, agents went &#8216;full throttle,&#8217; arresting citizens of the Iran across the US as that country threatened to retaliation following the US bombing of three nuclear sites in Iran which President Trump claimed have been &#8216;a spectacular military success.&#8217;<br>The apprehensions have taken place since Sunday in sweeping Immigration and Customs Enforcement operation, amid growing warnings about potential terrorist &#8216;sleeper cells&#8217; targeting the US.<br>On June 22, in Colorado Springs, ICE officials arrested Mahmoud Shafiei and Mehrdad Mehdipour, two Iranian nationals living together. Both are suspected of being in the country illegally.<br>Mahmoud Shafie&#8217;s criminal history includes state and federal convictions for drug crimes and arrests for assault and child abuse. His history with US Immigration Services stretches back to January 1981, in Seattle, Washington and by January 1987, a judge ordered him removed.<br>US Border Patrol encountered his roommate Mehrdad Mehdipour in June 2023 near Rio Grande Valley, Texas, and processed him as an expedited removal. Both men are in ICE custody pending removal proceedings.<br>These arrests come on the heels of an allegation that at least 1,500 Iranians entered the US during the Biden years. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Placing blame for the presence of illegal immigrants on the past administration, DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin in a <a class="" href="https://www.dhs.gov/news/2025/06/24/ice-arrests-11-iranian-nationals-illegally-us-over-weekend" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">press release</a> Tuesday said, <strong> </strong>&#8216;Under Secretary Noem, DHS has been full throttle on identifying and arresting known or suspected terrorists and violent extremists that illegally entered this country, through Biden’s fraudulent parole programs or otherwise.<br>&#8216;We have been saying we are getting the worst of the worst out—and we are,&#8217; McLaughlin wrote.<br>At least half of those in ICE custody were allowed to stay in the US, despite citizens of Iran being considered special interest aliens due to the possibility of being security threats.<br>On June 22, ICE San Francisco arrested Bahman Alizadeh Asfestani, a 62-year-old Iranian national, with a criminal history that includes a 1994 conviction for petty theft and a 1995 conviction of possession of a controlled substance for sale. Asfestani was sentenced to 10 years in state prison for the drug conviction and is now in ICE custody pending removal proceedings.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Mehrzad Asadi Eidivand, who had been ordered to leave the US 12 years ago by an immigration judge, had also been convicted of threatening a law enforcement officer and being an alien in possession of a firearm. <br>Eidivand entered through the southern border in June 2012, DHS said, and he was arrested in Tempe, Arizona Sunday. At the same residence, officials arrested Linet Vartaniann, a United States citizen, for threatening a law enforcement officer and harboring Eidivand, an illegal alien. <br>Vartaniann threatened to open fire on ICE officials if they entered her home, then said she would go outside and “shoot ICE officers in the head.” ICE officials obtained a search warrant for the residence and arrested the pair, who are now charged with federal crimes.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">ICE Houston arrested Behzad Sepehrian Bahary Nejad, an alien with a final order of removal, who was carrying a loaded 9mm pistol at the time of his arrest. He is in ICE custody pending removal proceedings.<br>After entering the US on a student visa in 2016, Nejad was arrested a year later in the Houston area for chocking a family member.<br>His wife was able to get a retraining order against him after he threatened her and he family back in Iran. <br>The University of Texas student was ordered out of the country in 2019. On July 23, 2018, the University of Texas terminated his student status after he was placed on academic suspension. <br>An immigration judge ordered him removed on Oct. 10, 2019, after he was released on an immigration bond. Subsequently, he filed a motion to reopen his case, which a judge also denied. Sepehrian is in ICE custody pending removal proceedings.<br>Also in Houston, ICE arrested Hamid Reza Bayat, an Iranian national an immigration judge ordered removed nearly 20 years ago, on Aug. 4, 2005. Twice convicted of drug crimes and once convicted of driving on a suspended license, Bayat served time before receiving his final order of removal. He’s now in ICE custody pending removal proceedings.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Another immigrant with suspected ties to terror was taken into custody in, in Gluckstadt, Mississippi on Sunday. ICE agents arrested Yousef Mehridehno, an Iranian national and former lawful permanent resident. The U.S. government terminated his residency in October 2017 after determining he lied on his original visa application and committed potential marriage fraud. <br>In February, Mehridehno was listed as a known or suspected terrorist, and he’s now in ICE custody pending removal proceedings.<br>Additional apprehensions were made Houston, Colorado, San Fransisco and San Diego.<br></p>
