An elementary school teacher in New Jersey has now been indicted over claims she got pregnant by a 13 year-old student.
Laura Caron, 34, is accused of engaging in an inappropriate sexual relationship with the student, who had been residing in her home, the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office said.
While DNA confirmation of the child’s paternity has not been made public, the suspended fifth-grade teacher at Middle Township Elementary School was indicted by a grand jury last week on charged of first-degree aggravated sexual assault, second-degree sexual assault and second-degree endangering the welfare of a child.
The indictment follows months of forensic analysis, interviews, and affidavits painting a disturbing picture of a teacher who allegedly used her authority and emotional proximity to manipulate and sexually exploit a child entrusted to her care.
Caron of Cape May in New Jersey, is accused of grooming and attacking the boy from when he was 11, The youngster had moved into her home between 2016 along with his sister and younger brother due to the issues at the biological parents home.
The relationship allegedly continued for four years. Caron continued to abuse the victim until 2020, when the child was around 14 or 15 years old, prosecutors said.
The alleged rape were exposed in January after the alleged victim’s father realized Caron’s now five-year-old daughter bore a strong resemblance to his teenage son.

‘Tell me y’all don’t see (what) I see. If that ain’t my exact DNA it’s definitely my son’s and we both know I never touched you,’ read a Facebook post from the boy’s dad. after he realized what was going on.
Caron was arrested in January and detained. Released earlier in the month on bail, she is due back in court July 16.
The charges stem from what prosecutors have alleged was a years-long sexual relationship that Caron initiated and maintained with a boy who had once been her student.
According to court documents, the abuse began in 2016, when Caron was 28 and the victim just 11 years old.
Prosecutors say Caron gave birth to a daughter in 2019, when the boy was just 13 years old. It is believed that the teenager is the father of the child.

The alleged victim and his two siblings, who had previously been Caron’s students, began staying at her home in Middle Township intermittently, reportedly due to instability within their biological family.
Over time, that arrangement became more permanent, and by 2016 the children were living with Caron full-time.
Investigators allege while the children lived in her home, Caron began grooming the boy, eventually initiating a sexual relationship that continued for four years, until 2020, at which point the boy would have been about 14 or 15 years of age.
During the period of the inappropriate relationship, Laura Caron was still employed as a fifth-grade teacher in the Middle Township School District, where she had taught for over a decade.
Who knew and what action was taken came to the fore, shattering the years of acquiescence, after the boy’s father made a second Facebook post, suggesting that Caron’s daughter resembled both the poster and his son.
This post gained traction, raising immediate concerns. Local authorities were prompted to launch an investigation into accusations that had gone viral.

It was a viral accusation by the victim’s dad that suggested the teacher’s daughter resembled both the father and his son, that led police to open an investigation. Caron [photo], was arrested and detained in Jan. 2025

The resulting probe, led by the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office and the Middle Township Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit, uncovered what prosecutors now describe as a case of ‘Systematic Abuse and Manipulation’.
Court records show that Caron not only taught the victim, but also his younger brother.
Both had been her students before they moved into her home with their sister.
The affidavit of probable cause alleges that other children in the home noticed troubling signs including the victim sleeping in Caron’s bed, rather than with his siblings. He was also known to shower with their benefactress.
The victim’s brother reported witnessing a sexual encounter between teacher and student The pair he believes, thought he was asleep.
His other sibling reportedly has the screenshot of a conversation in which the victim admitted to being the father of Caron’s child. However, he entreated her not to expose the fact because he did not want Caron to get in trouble.

Earlier this month Laura Caron [photo], was released on bail from the Cape May County Correctional Facility, where she had been detained since her arrest in January

In January 2025, Caron was arrested. At a detention hearing, her defense attorney, John Tumelty, argued that the state had acted prematurely as no DNA test had yet confirmed the alleged paternity of the child.
Surprisingly, the alleged father of Caron’s baby does not see his former teacher as a predator. He does not believe she deserves to be sent to jail, either.
‘They need to drop all charges. I wasn’t groomed or raped or manipulated by her. She never initiated anything,’ he reportedly said.
‘I started everything. If it was up to me she wouldn’t have been in jail. It’s been six or seven years. I’m 19 about to be 20.’ Rejecting suggestions that the alleged abuse happened when he was 11, he calls the allegations ‘crazy’.
Meanwhile the alleged dad added, he is not allowed to talk to the child as the case makes its way through the courts.

Following her arrest, Caron was suspended without pay from her decade-long employment with the Middle Township School District. She was working as a fifth-grade teacher at Middle Township Elementary School Number Two in Cape May Court House, NJ

Prosecutors confirmed that a DNA warrant was obtained, but the results have not yet been publicly released.
Following her arrest, Caron was suspended without pay by the Middle Township School District.
Caron’s attorney also noted at the time that no complaints had been filed against his client during her 11-year teaching career. Furthermore her mother, who lived in the same house, knew of no abuse.
However, according to investigators the evidence of infraction is mounting.
If convicted, Caron faces up to 20 years in prison on the first-degree aggravated sexual assault charge, with an additional 5 to 10 years possible on each of the second-degree charges.
Her arraignment is scheduled for July 16 in Cape May County Superior Court.
