<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The female driver accused in Saturday’s hit-run that killed two people in New York&#8217;s Chinatown had been charged in another serious car crash just three months ago and freed without bail, records show.<br>Early Saturday, the same motorist was at the wheels of a rental that had been reported stolen, speeding across the Manhattan Bridge when she lost control and careened down the pavement, striking and killing two people before smashing into a police NYPD van.<br>According to witness accounts, just before 7:30 am Saturday, a blue Chevrolet Malibu plowed into a man in his 30s on a bicycle and a 63-year-old woman, identified as Mary Kwok, who was sitting on a bench at Bowery and Canal Street.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In the wake of Saturday&#8217;s crash, it has been reported that the same driver, identified by sources as Autumn Donna Ascencio Romero, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and driving without a license in the April 13 Brooklyn crash, which reportedly left a 22-year-old pedestrian with injuries.<br>Romero fled the scene, bu she was arrested the next day with the help of a witness.<br>However she was released and returned to the streets after her arraignment curtsy of the state’s bail-reform laws, the court records reveal.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Police did not identify the man killed on his bicycle, but the other fatal victim was identified by her brother as Mary Kwok, 63.<br>Her sibling, Peter Kwok, told The Post his sister was sitting on a bench when she was struck and killed.<br>“That’s her hangout spot,” he said. “She goes to church in Chinatown.”<br>Kwok said his sister struggled with mental illness in recent years and would sometimes leave the home in the wee hours.<br>“I had thought about the scenario, you know, what could happen to her,” Peter said. “You know, in the city anything can happen like that.”</p>
