Cherie Walker, has is charged with felony child neglect charges and enabling child sexual abuse. Her 11-year-old daughter gave birth at home. Cherie and her husband who is not the biological father, claimed they were not aware the homeschooled pre-teen was pregnant
A couple in Oklahoma has been arrested after their 11-year-old daughter gave birth at home without any medical assistance and they maintained that they were not aware that the child was pregnant.
The young girl’s mother, Cherie Walker, 33, and her stepfather, Dustin Walker, 34, are facing felony child neglect charges, including sexual abuse of a minor, after they allegedly failed to provide supervision or medical care to the child, who gave birth at their house in Muskogee on August 16.
Dustin Walker is now charged with sexual abuse of a minor, while Cherie Walker faces charges of enabling child sexual abuse.
The couple initially faced neglect charges after the girl delivered her baby at home after 36 weeks of pregnancy, meaning that she gave birth to a full-term baby, according to court documents, as the couple feigned lack of awareness of the pregnancy for the entire 36 weeks..
Then a DNA test confirmed Dustin Walker is the father of his stepdaughter’s child.
Prosecutors have also added further counts of child neglect, covering both the childbirth case and the child’s five siblings in their care.

Investigators also claimed in the charging documents that the homeschooled pre-teen who received no prenatal care, had not been to the doctor in over a year.
The pregnancy and childbirth only came to light after the new mother sought medical attention post delivery. She was taken to hospital on August 17, a day after giving birth at home, prompting police to be contacted immediately.
The 11-year-old described the child as “rather petite,” gave birth to a normal-sized infant.
‘I was horror-stricken to find out it’s an 11-year-old girl who’s given birth, and that she had no medical care and she had no one to be with her,’ Assistant District Attorney Janet Hutson said, as she emphasized that the young girl is ‘traumatized’, for a life time.
‘She’s been through a horrific ordeal. I mean, not only has somebody gotten her pregnant, but she gave birth at home without medical assistance and this will be with her… for the rest of her life.’
The ADA at the time indicated that DNA testing had been scheduled to determine the baby’s paternity.
While urging anyone who suspects child abuse or neglect to report such cases she noted that doctors and schools typically notice such cases and report them. However, in this case, the girl was not in school and may have been homeschooled, which limited opportunities for intervention: “The child had been out of school for a period of time, and it is my understanding that children may have been homeschooled,” Hutson said.

Hutson also indicated that were plans to file additional charges against Cherie and Dustin Walker, both held on a $100,000 bond ahead of their scheduled September 3 court appearance.
In the meantime, the 11-year-old girl and her five siblings have been removed from the home.
Next door neighbor Cheryl Adkins reveals that the children were exposed to unstable and unsanitary conditions in the home. She is convinced that Cherie and Dustin knew about their daughter’s pregnancy, despite their insistence that they were completely unaware..
‘They have no running water for the last two or three years,’ Adkins said, and she had made several calls in to police and authorities requesting welfare checks on the children. She fears that help may have arrived too late.
‘This is getting to me,’ Adkins said. ‘They robbed her of her childhood.’
Meanwhile the children’s grandmother attempted to deflect blame from the family. Identified only as Michelle, she maintains that the community has not heard the whole story.
‘I just want people to know, we did not know this was happening. None of us,’ she said, adding that she is upset that her daughter and son-in-law are being portrayed as ‘monsters.’

The young girl’s grandmother, Michelle, [photo], said her granddaughter told her the baby’s father is a 12-year-old whom Michelle used to babysit – ‘They got curious. That’s all I know’
‘They are not,’ the grandmother said. ‘They love those children. They love them.’
According to Michelle, the house is in such poor condition because of the family’s pets.
‘We have animals, and so sometimes there’s trash on the floor because the dogs get into the trash,’ Michelle explained. ‘It gets cleaned up.’
‘Right now it’s probably a mess because the animals are in there,’ she admitted. ‘We try to let them out, but they try to keep it clean,’ she said of her daughter and son-in-law.
Regarding the the possible paternity of her new great-grandchild, Michelle said her granddaughter told her the baby’s father is a 12-year-old whom Michelle used to babysit.
‘She keeps telling everybody it was him,’ she said. ‘They got curious. That’s all I know.’
